Botox Injections/Insurance

hello everyone,

I just had another set of injections done on 2-5. I have been taking them for approx 8 years now.

The county that I work for offers just one particular insurance company and that it, no choices or anything.

The doctor I have been going to all these years in not in the
"network" of this insurance company, which means until the deductible (very high when seeing an "out-of-network" doctor) I will have to pay the entire cost of the injections, which get to be very expensive.

Now of course, i could always change doctors, but I have been going to him for a long time and its hard to trust anyone with a needle around my eyes, alot of people don;t understand that, but that is how i feel, plus the fact that he has handled my case for the very beginning.

I was wondering if there were any supplemental insurances out there that would cover my injections. I usually end up getting injections approx. 2 times a year (down from 4 times a year!!!). And to date, i have never had any assistance from insurance in payment, I always seem to miss the calendar year or something.

If anyone has any suggestions or advice I would definitely be open to it!!!

Thank You

Peanut

Judy our Moderator is the best on the expertise of insurance. I changed doctors many times to find the best fit for me, but getting to her is a big stressor for me. I would continue doing it unless I found someone closer I like just as well. I will never go to a doctor I don't like or trust. Miracles of Miracles happened. I decided to check out a female neurologist here closer and I loved her. I had the blessing of my doctor who was so far away and the assurance I could always come back to her if things don't work out with this new one. So you might think of it in those terms, just to explore since the Botox is so expensive out of pocket. You can always go back to the one you like if it doesn't work out. Just an idea.
Delaine in TN who has insurance because of my husband and will also be eligible for Medicare in May. No body ever commented on my question about Medicare paying for Botox only every 91 days. I had someone in Knoxville TN who is on Medicare and that is what she is told even though she needs it about every 60 days. Anyone had that experience?

Hi Delaine ... I am on Medicare and I have the Botox injections every eight weeks. No problem (so far) However, I also have a supplemental HMO. I go "out of network" to the neurologist because he is the only one in Spokane who treats BEB. An ophthalmologist also gives the injections, but I don't think he is as knowledgable as the neuro (plus he is also "out of network"). Does your friend have supplemental insurance, or only Medicare?

I don't know. But Medicare would be her primary and sometimes the secondary will follow the primary lead. I just know she can't afford it on her own and she said Medicare was very specific about no more often than every 91 days.
