Myobloc

I need some help from anyone who has recieved myobloc injections for
blepharospasm. My insurance company turned down my request for myobloc injections because the FDA has only approved it's use for cervical dystonia. I am going to write a letter to the big wigs in my insurance hierarchy but first I need to be armed with information. What I need is the name and phone # of any doctor who has administered myobloc for blepharospasm. For anyone else who encounters this
problem, here is some additional information for you: A precedent has already been set by most health care providers for " off label" use of botox-a. botox-a was originally approved by the FDA for the use of hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm and yet many health care providers used it to treat cervical dystonia. I recieved botox-a for cervical dystonia 10 years ago. It's only a recent development where botox-a has been approved for cervical dystonia. This is according to my doctor. I haven't confirmed this with the FDA. I figure if they can do "off label" use of botox-a, they should be able to do it with botox-b also. I'll wait until I get some doctors names and phone numbers who are currently using myobloc before I write my letter.

Thanks,

Dan

Sally,

I'm sure it will help. Thankyou. A bit of additional information for anyone else going through the same thing: If you call the Myobloc people at 1-800 go 1 call, they will be an advocate for you in putting your insurance company through an appeal process. Phil Bowser e-mailed me and told me he did this.
