FL-41 tint

I took some pictures of my glasses and I will try to post them. One pair is not tinted, one with 35% tint and one the darkest tint or 80% tint, I believe. There is also a middle shade that I do not have. This will just give you some idea what the FL-41 tint looks like.

That's really `neat' Shirley - I'd think those rose shades would be very flattering (colour near the face and all that). Thanks.

Dear Puddin Head,
The pictures came out a little dark. I tried putting them on a white background and the flash wouldn't go off so then I tried a black background and the flash went off but they still came out a little dark. I finally got my digital camera that I've been wanting so thought that I would play with it. Anyway, I thought that it would give people that hadn't seen them some kind of idea what the tints look like.
Thanks for the compliments gang.

Great pictures Shirley! You should go into the advertising business! This gives me an idea of what to expect.

Thanks much.

Thanks Andy, but no advertising or sales for me. I just knew that there are a lot of questions about the FL-41 tinted lenses and people don't really know at all what they look like. I purchased mine before I even knew that there were three different shades of the tint. When I called to order them, I was not told. I don't have the middle tint. Just the lightest and the darkest. The darkest tint is really great for outdoors and in department stores with bright overhead lighting. There was a lady at the conference in Kentucky in August who had brought along the sample lenses for the different tints that you can get. So I got to see all three different tints at that time. I do believe that I remember her saying that if you actually have your precription filled for your glasses at Knighton Optical that they put the tinting in the lenses instead of on the outside and that you actually got a better effect or result that way. Did anybody else hear her say that? Or did I dream that?

I don't remember her saying that. I did get my prescription filled at Knighton, but I don't know how to tell whether the tinting is on or in the lens. It was the same for me - not knowing that there were three different shades. The first pair I had done was the middle tint and they are perfect for me to wear indoors.

Hi! I've never heard of FL-41 glasses, but department store lighting is a real problem for me. (I stand next to a counter facing away from anyone who might see me and wait till my eyes open up--or worse, hold them open and pretend I'm just shading my eyes.) Can you tell me where to find more information on these glasses and whether you have to "special order" them?

Thanks,
Carol

Carol, This is a link that you can go to that tells about the FL-41 tint. I believe that it is the only place that you can get them. You can call them for information also. The cost is about $25 to have the tint applied.

Hi Carol ... Department store lighting (and supermarket lighting, church lighting, etc.) kill me, too. Catalog companies love me!!

Can we just order sunglasses. All types of lighting beats the heck out of me. and my kids and husband complain because I turn all the lights off or leave just one on.

Becca, you could email or call them and see what they could work out. I'm not sure how it would be done. Someone else might know and respond.
A lot of people get relief with just dark wrap around sunglasses that you can get at places like Walmart or your eye doctors.
Indirect lighting in your house seems to help. Lighting that comes from behind you is also better. I have a halogen lamp in our living room that doesn't seem to bother me. It is pointed up towards the ceiling so is the indirect lighting. Some people say that pink light bulbs are easier on their eyes.

Dear Shirley, I just got my glasses last week from Chuck. I had my sunglasses tinted at 85 and my prescription ones done at 35 to work on the computer at work. The first day at work, I had a little trouble but kept trying them and they are wonderful. Today, my eyes were not as tired after using them all day. Had sunglasses made at 85 but do not feel they are dark enough for me in bright sunlight. I prefer my very, very dark glasses. I am giving them a try and do enjoy them, but still would like them darker. I wasn't sure either of them would work for me but am so very glad I had them made for me and will keep trying until I find what works for me. If you send glasses to Charles, do not have any coating put on the lenses. He had to redo one pair because the tint would not absorbe through the scratch coating. Good luck Mary

Mary, I do agree that the 85% tint is not dark enough for me either in the bright sunlight. I have a pair of darkly tinted clip on sunglasses that fit my glasses that I got from the eye doctor that I use over them in bright sunlight. Actually have them for both pairs of glasses with the FL-41 tinting. I just use what seems to work best at the time. When I sent off my larger pair of glasses they already had a light tint on them which Chuck had to remove before he applied the FL-41. It costs a little more for him to do that.

Same here. I use wrap-arounds that fit over both of my FL41s.
