The April issue of Ladies Home Journal includes an article on the noncosmetic uses of Botox. I was interviewed and a very short version of my story is printed. I was upset, however, because they listed my story under "Sooths Facial Tics." I have e-mailed the editor to clarify that blepharospasm is NOT a facial tic but a chronic neurological disease. Anyway, the uses of Botox are tremendous and I thought you might like to read the article.

I've already read the article Kelly - it is listed under Health "More Than Just a Wrinkle Remover" and then your section under "Soothe facial tics".
I thought it was a good article - and great awareness - but you are right to have told the editor to clarify beb.
You are now famous - but I'm sure we all wish it wasn't because you had beb!

Kelly, I wrote to them too because they didn't include a reference to the Foundation if people needed more information. They had contacted the foundation and spoken to Mary Lou and had the names of several patients. This is typical of newspaper and magazine articles. However, it's better than no article at all.

i think you definitely should have the facial tic mix-up clarified. someone could read that article and find help for something they were too puzzled or confused to do anything about.

I got the magazine today and was disappointed with the heading before your comments and the brevity of your interview. It's sad you had so little control over the final product. Oh well, on the bright side...they did have some of what you said and something about Botox for Blepharospasm...we have to be thankful for that.... But I'm not letting them off the hook. If they get enough comments from BEB patients, they might print some of them and we can educate some more and get more attention. So come on gang, start writing those letters!

Thanks for your interest and your willingness to write the editor. I received a response today from Wendy Naugle(Health Editor) telling me that she is sorry I don't agree with the subheading "Soothe Facial Tics but it is something that readers can relate to and understand quickly. I replied that I understood that but there may be people out there who are searching for help right now and could have used more info than they gave. They spoke not only with me but also with my doctors so the info was made available to them. PLEASE continue to e-mail them with your thoughts on the article as well. Who knows, maybe we could get a more factual article about blepharospasm. Probably wishful thinking but if we don't step forward, no one will.

Letters and email to the editor re:articles are published when they get large amounts pro and con so it is worth a try and that would be helpful just to have some of them published. I sent mine today. I thanked them for the article and then told them I thought the heading was not appropriate for BEB and told them why I thought so. I also complained that the BEBRF number was not listed so people could get more info and support. You did good and we are proud of you.
