Hi everyone! Sorry I have not posted for a while, but I have been taking classes to use screen reading program and between that and trying to do things at home, I have not had much time to get on the computer.Just wanted to let everyone know how easy it was for me to get Social Security Disability.
All I did was call the 800 number and request that they send me an application. Also set up phone interview because I am unable to drive. I filled out all the information they needed on the papers they sent me, did my phone interview, and was approved three days before my short term disability from work ran out. I am eligible for the month of April and will receive my first check May 23.
I did not need a lawyer, I did not have to go to their office, I did not have to see another doctor. It was approved in less than 90 days, but notification was delayed because my case was one that was selected for quality control review, but still was notified within four months of applying.
My doctors were really quick in responding to ssd's requests for records. It was so easy, I wonder why I waited so long to give in and apply. Of course, I will not receive from ssd as much as I made working, but it will be enough to do me until I am trained to do something else (hopefully). SSD has a lot of incentives for disabled people to try and return to work. I feel that I will be able to work as a machine transcriptionist as soon as I master the use of a screen reader.

Congratulations, Clara. It's so wonderful to hear good news like that. I'm so happy all went so well for you and that your doctors were on the ball getting your info in ASAP. Email me and let me know more about the Screen Reading classes you are/were taking. I thought if I ever go back to work, I'd like to be a medical transcriptionist. Congrats to Clara in Ohio!! You deserve it after the disappointment
from the myectomy. Was thinking about you just the other day wondering how you are doing. Good luck with the continuance of your studies as a machine transcriptionist. Goes to show you what can be accomplished when we put our minds to it!! You're a great example.

Way to go! I am so happy for you. Mine went pretty much along those same lines and it gives hope to those who are out there and haven't applied.

Clara, so glad to hear the good news about the SSI. I remember back how concerned you were and there were a few of us who said that we had no problem at all. Your approval seemed to go just as mine did. What a great Easter present. Again, congratulations....Alan

Congratulations!!! I just received my award letter yesterday. It took about nine months. I went through reconsideration and my case was also picked for review by quality control. Please tell me about the work incentives. Thanks Cindy
