Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
Stress is when my husband gets upset with me for receiving yet another package at the Door from QVC. Spasm City! But will I stop that ridiculous habit.
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
I think I am going to hit all ten this Spring. My husband is being offered and early retirement. I haven't worked since 1977 and have my house and life to myself days. Plus I have parents that are 87 and 91 that I try to help. Do you think I am in for an interesting SPRING?
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
Marlyn, now now lets be fair to your husband. My wife had not worked for many years and I was forced to retire early because of this BEB. She will tell you (I hope) that I have been pretty good. The only thing that we did that I believe helped is that we sold our small ranch right after I retired and built a large ten room house for the two of us. We have plenty of private space for ourselves and it is a lot more fun chasing her around the house now. Course she is a little more tired by the time I catch her but that's OK. Seriously, I am sure that things will work out fine and you will enjoy spending more time together. Alan
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
Marilyn, I was forced into early retirement, absolutely detest housework, and have been at loose ends since I can no longer read without great strain. I enjoy it when I am home alone, but my husband is a farmer, sort of retired but works hard during farming season. During the "off" season, however, he is plunked in the recliner, three feet from the TV, listening to CNN and C-Span umpteen hours of the day. Drives me nuts. I hate politics and all that hoopla even more than housework. Thankfully, he goes to bed super early, and I can stay up and mess around on the computer. If we can survive each other, so can you and your husband. Good luck. Hopefully your husband has some quiet hobbies.
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
I am into this "change of life" only 3 months and still don't know what I should be doing with my self. I also detest housework. My husband is retired and works 2 part time jobs, plus he is a musician and a regular church goer, sings in several choirs. I am still pretty much hiding. I go for lunch with a girlfriend once a week, write and e-mail quite a few people, and try to keep all my paperwork in order as I apply for SSI and disability retirement. I used to love to work in my flower beds in the summer, but don't know if I'll be able to continue with the light sensitivity. I am still radically adjusting and should probably be seeing a shrink. I get depressed, then go into denial and think this will just go away or they will find a cure any day. I was with my husband last night and wore dark glasses, as my eyes were bad. A woman I know as an acquaintance sAID SHE WOULD NOT TALK TO ME BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T TRUST PEOPLE WHO WORE DARK GLASSES AT NIGHT AND HID THEIR EYES. I took my glasses off and showed her that my lids were taped open, and I let her know she was pretty insensitive, because I had a medical problem. I think (hope) I embarrassed her. I get tired of trying to explain what is wrong. THIS CAUSES ME ALOT OF STRESS. Yet, I don't want to hide...
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
Hi Joanne, I have learned that real friends can live with this condition. But I do tell people right up front "I have an eye condition and have trouble keeping my eyes open and I hope it doesn't bother them". Works for me!! I have to laugh or I could crash and you might as well enjoy what life has good. We can't wish this away and maybe someday they will find a cure!!
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress
Thanks for the words of encouragement. But I think my husband could be alot like yours with the recliner and the TV or OUR COMPUTER!!! Maybe I should draw up an agreement??? One thing I figure I will have my own personal chaffeaur.
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress & make your spasms
Shirley, I can certainly identify with your #1 cause of stress. Today we took my mother and my husband's stepmother out for lunch. They are 87 and 92. We love them dearly but by the time lunch was over and we took them to a movie my eyes had pretty well "shut down". How in the world can we control that stress????
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress & make your spasms
Cynthia, What a brave person you are. I have parents that are 87 and 91 and I can't even imagine taking them both out together. I do take my mother and count to 10 alot.
Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress & make your spasms
Marilyn, My mother is almost 83 and I have to count waaaaaay past 10 any time that I'm around her. And even then, I usually end up in tears. I may be well over 60, but am still the only child who knows nothing and never did (most likely never will do!) anything right. I sure hope I've been more pleasant to my kids. I agree, Cynthia was pretty brave to tackle the twosome at once.

Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress & make your spasms
Cynthia, I don't think that there is a way to control that stress. My parents are both 84 and my mother-in-law is 88. And they are all showing their age with health and mental problems. My husband and myself make weekly medication visits where we fill up their pill dispensors for the week. My husband didn't realize how much fun it was until I developed BEB and he had to drive me. He now takes care of his mothers meds and I do my folks. We stay and visit for a while and it is always very hard to get away.Another stressor was when I first started having symptoms with my eyes, my 16 year old son was just learning to drive. Going with him was a real killer for the eyes. Since I couldn't drive because I couldn't keep my eyes open and he had his learners permit ,out of neccesity, he drove me places. Scary!!!

Re: Top Ten Things that Cause Stress & make your spasms
I didn't even have BEB when my daughter was learning to drive and it was nerve-wracking! I "finagled" her dad into going with her as much as I could!
