Hi Ann,
Good to hear from you again. Are you asking anyone in particular or do you just want to hear from people regarding their experiences with the surgery?

I had an upper limited myectomy with ptosis repair about 7 weeks ago. Things are gradually improving. The swelling and tearing still comes and goes and my vision is still blurred some. The eye area feels very tight. I've been back for botox once since the surgery about 2 weeks ago. I only got 35 units in my lower lids. I was getting 100 units before the surgery. I didn't get any injections where the surgery itself was done so no additional discomfort with the injections. No muscle there so no need to put botox there.
Results are still out but Dr. Anderson said that I should have gradual improvement for 6 months or so. I don't have any squeezing or spasms in my upper lids where the muscles were removed. I feel a little pulling in my forehead but minimally so. I will need to continue to get the botox for my lower lids. That's not a problem for me. The apraxia was my worst problem and I can definitely say at this point that is better. I can get my eyes to open. They still want to close some, especially in the mornings but it is easier to open them, now. I'm taking much less of the medicine that I was taking to get my eyes open and to help with the spasms. It is not perfect and is not a cure but things are better for me and hopefully I will continue to have some further improvement when all the side effects from the surgery itself, go away. The jury is still out on the extent of improvement that I will have. I am glad that I had it done and have no regrets but then I haven't gotten my bill yet either. I don't know how much my insurance will pay on the procedure. They just said that they would pay on it except for the cosmetic part which I have already paid for.

Do you have any questions or want to know anything in particular? Maybe others will post about their myectomies.

Shirley in AR.

PS-How have you been doing? You haven't posted in a while.

I had a limited upper eyelid myectomy in Nov. 2000. I think it has definitely helped, but I still get botox in my lower lids. The combination of the two seems to be working for me right now. Like Shirley, I still feel some pulling in my forehead sometimes, but it doesn't close my eyes.

Virginia in Al - the doctor has been paid, but the hospital can't seem to get the bill right.

I had the surgery on Nov. 2, 2000 and would definitely do it again. Though it is not a cure and does not eliminate the need for Botox, the improvement is worth it. The good eye days outnumber the bad ones by about 30 to 2. Have not started back on Botox yet, but the indications are that I will probably begin again in July. Have not had any since last July!
How are you doing?
Cynthia
