Re: botox injections
Your experience is much like mine when I was first injected: the Dr. used 18 injection points, 9 around each eye. I think he used a bit more Botox, but I'm not certain. Each of us is a little different in our response to Botox, and your Dr. should be taking this into account. It may take several treatments for the Dr. to find the right dosage and injection pattern to maximize your benefit, so be patient with yourself and with him/her. Nowadays I am getting injected in 5/eye and the duration of benefit is 6-7 months. It has taken a long time to get this level of effectiveness, but patience really can pay off. I wish you the best. --- Lynn

Re: botox injections
Hi Pat, I get injections every 8 weeks and have for 2 or 3 years. I started with every 3 months. That worked only for about a couple of years. Actually it was quite a while before my dr. would go to every 8 weeks. (I've been getting them since 94.) That has worked really well until just the last 6 to 8 months.
My doctor has varried my sites a little just trying to see if they would be more effective, but I've never really noticed too much difference. I wish I could help you, I know it is hard when you have to wait until next time to see if something will be different. Does it ever seem like you spend most of your life waiting?
I was wondering, do all of you who use ointments, use them only for dry eyes? My doctor has never suggested that I use them, and I was just wondering.
Thanks Billie
Re: botox injections
Pat, I don't think I've posted a msg to you and if I have just ignore this but my experience is similar to yours. I was diagnosed on March 21 and given my first botox, I had baby dose and immediately the spasms were gone. I was next to normal for about 10 weeks and then I began to have some light sensitivity and some blinking, I went back in on June 11 and had second set of injections, my eyes are not doing as well this time. I'm having lots of double vision and blurriness, my eyes in general are out of sorts, The last two days seem to be a bit better as far as blurriness. The double vision is the same and its a real bummer.I feel good, however, and I'm not doing differently except I'm not driving and can't watch tv and it takes me 3 times the effort to read. I talked to my dr. about it and he promised me I would get better so I'm trusting that I will. I'm just afraid that by the time it gets better I'll need more botox. I don't know how many units I had, but just know dr. called it baby dose and he gave me probably 8 to 10 injectons around each eye. penny in oklahoma citiy
Re: botox injections/locations and dosage
I find it helpful to request that the doctor give me a copy of his diagram that shows where he gave injections and how much at each site. That way I can track what has changed and see if I can tell how the difference have affected the outcome of the treatment. I can go back over years and see what we have tried and how it turned out. Besides, I just like to know. The doctor shouldn't object to giving you a copy - you have to be a team in finding effective treatment because he isn't living day to day with this like we are.Virginia in AL
Re: botox injections/locations and dosage
Virginia, having the dr give you a copy of the injection sites & amounts of each is a good idea & I hadn't thought of it, thanks. I didn't even ask how much botox I was getting until after I went to the conference last year. Going to the conference really did help me a lot.
