Re: bright lights extra
Cliff, what goes "omp" ... your eyes or your voice?? I make lots of strange noises with my voice when my eyes are spasming and I'm fighting to make them open.Sally in North Idaho
Re: bright lights extra
Hi Sally; It's my voice. Cliff
Re: bright lights and making noises
Cliff,
I also make a lot of strange noises and humming as a means of keeping my eyes open. It is very irritating to me but when I stop, my eyes close. So the noise-making continues. I don't think about doing it, I just do it. I have to think about not making the noises and sometimes that doesn't work. It is almost uncontrollable at times.Shirley in AR. humming as we "speak"
Re: bright lights and making noises
Hi Shirley, My noise is a whistle. The "omping" sounds are what happens when I have a hard spasm. Its just like grunting. I really hate it. Is this something different? Or is it just more of the same thing. Always learning. Thanks, Cliff
Re: making noises
Hi Cliff,
I don't really know. It may be the same type thing and when you have a real tight or hard spasm, you grunt and make this noise rather than whistling. My noises kind of change at times, too. It also could have something to do with your breathing when this happens and how you react. It is really hard to say.
Maybe someone else has some other insight into it.Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. I can really relate to you hating it. I find my noises rather obnoxious. My sons and husband just ignore them (or so they say) but my husband will frequently ask me "what did you say?" Shirley in AR.
Re: making noises
Cliff, I'm like Shirley, I make noises to keep my eyes open. Usually I sing or hum. A lot of times, clearing my throat will make my eyes open. I do that a lot when I'm trying to fix my hair in the mornings. Sometimes when I'm talking and my eyes spasm my voice will sometimes react to it, but I'm not sure how. I guess I need to pay closer attention. I have gotten so used to making noises to keep my eyes open I don't even realize that I do it anymore. A few years ago, when I first realized that singing helped keep my eyes open, I sang all of the time. My youngest daughter said, "Mom you know that really is annoying." I guess she got used to it, she's never mentioned it again.
I'm not sure why it bothered her, I do sing on tune. Maybe she didn't like my song I chose.

Re: making noises
Hi folks, thanks for the replies. I'm going to try humming or singing. My whistle is just about gone. Thanks, Cliff
ompping
Cliff,
I do something similar to what you describe. The sound seems to be coming from my throat and usually comes just one "omp" at a time. It mostly happens when I am doing something strenuous (moderately - that's all I do) like walking uphill. I was hesitant to post at first because it hadn't happened in a while and I didn't remember exactly how it was happening. I did it today several times. It doesn't seem to be associated with my eyes as much as my throat-neck-mouth spasms.
