Tue. The View Show

If the View Show does talk about Botox, I hope they mention, not only using it for wrinkle removal, but also BEB, and our other related disorders. The question was raised, should we talk about our disorder to our friends and family and etc.I have decided the answer is a big , YES, so I have begun to do this.We have to start to educate as many as we can, start in our own back yard. I have just recently joined a new book discussion group of senior ladies. The Botox subject came up and I thought this is a good time to tell them about my hemi facial spasms. So I took 5 minutes to explain my disorder and how Botox helps me, and I told them if they see my eye blinking, I am not winking at them. Edith in Ohio

Any time anyone has seemed interested in my conditions and asked a question; I've noticed by the third sentence they have turned me off and have that blank look, looking into space. Generally speaking, they don't want to hear so I change the subject. It seems the only people interested are those that have the same or similar condition. It reminds me to listen more to other people and try to keep my mouth shut. I will still answer those that question and perhaps someday will find some outsider who is interested. Even my best friends don't want to hear. I have 2 daughters who are nurses and will listen for up to 5 sentences-7 on a good day. It must be a very boring subject. Ann Doyle

i have had the very same experience. the people who should care the most , avoid any discussion of it or turn you off after a few sentences, as if they can't be bothered. for such a very serious and painful disorder, this is almost like a slap in the face. this board is the most caring interaction i have ever had.

I have to admit that I am absolutely flabbergasted at the treatment you are getting from friends/acquaintances. I have not run into this at all. Of course, I haven't had this as long as some of you (1 year) and I have finally gotten it somewhat under control. It isn't obvious to most people anymore. I wish I could just send you some of my friends!!!

I don't have BEB, and the subject is certainly not boring to me. Sometimes it seems I spend hours reading the bb, and I tell others about it every chance I get.

Thanks Evelyn. You are doing all of us a great service and I appreciate it. We are learning from you, also.
I hope that you are still trying to work out coming to the conference.

I'm so glad you like the Basmati too. I had just learned about it myself, and I feel the same way you do. It's great.

Hi Edith,
Somehow I doubt that they will bring up any valid medical reasons to use botox. The show is going to be about face lifts and cosmetic improvements, I believe. I sure wish that they would, though.
I'm glad that you were able to bring it up at your discussion group. At least if they see someone with the problem, they might think of you and remember what you told them and might be able to help someone else.

I think I saw that show last week. Wonder if it was broadcast a week earlier here on the west coast??? Anyway, it was all about wrinkles.

I will include the URL link to "The View" at the bottom.
From that page you can click on to see the schedule
for this week's shows, or you can click on Joy Behar's name
and a box will pop up, you can write in a message
and email it to her, if you so desire.

Thanks Mindy,
I sent her a little email asking her to tell the other side of the story. The one about the many medical reasons for using Botox. Maybe someday someone will listen and do a show on the various forms of dystonia.

I emailed each co-host and the Viewmaster on Sat and told them about the noncosmetic uses of botox. Who knows if it will matter but maybe. I hid my condition for a long time but about a year ago I decided it wasn't going anywhere and it was nothing to be ashamed of. I was interviewed by Ladies Home Journal and Fox local news health reporter. I am 32, disabled, and very blessed with beautiful girls, great husband, caring doctors, and ANYTHING I can do to help someone find a diagnosis/treatment/support is what I need to do.
