Trying Jenny's Doctor

Hi Everybody

It turned out that the doctor Jenny saw in Fremantle (a neurologist) actually treated my husband a few years ago. What a small world!

I rang yesterday to make an appointment and the earliest was OCTOBER !!!

The secretary said they had a couple of emergency appointments but the approach would need to come from my GP. So I have faxed him a copy of the referral and also a letter from me explaining the urgency. He only does the Botox at Fremantle Hospital apparently and not at his rooms but I would need to have a consultation first before going to the clinic. So, I now wait to see if I get a positive response to my letter and the referral. I told him I was virtually blind behind the wheel of my car. I hope he understands the situation.

Lyn - still waiting

Hi Lyn. So glad you got hold of that Dr. I hope you get in before October, surely you will. I got in with 2 weeks notice. Best of luck.
I was just talking to my mum and she said you were most welcome to call for a coffee when you went thru' to Freemantle. Mum and Dad live in Rockingham and they would they would love to meet you. They are both wonderful people and they would make you welcome.
You say you are blind behind the wheel..... hopefully you are driving in the blind lane with your white stick out the window. HA!
I am still waiting for more injections as well....not October tho' just until 15 August. By the way I never got charged a cent for the botox I received over there. He said surely oz and nz have some sort of agreement for these things. My brother was prepared to pay the $500 or so that we thought it was going to be for me to see him while I was over there. Anyway Lyn, I do hope it goes well for you and that you consider visiting Ma and Pa Hamilton on your way.
Cheerz!!!
Jenny in NZ

Hi Lyn,
I really hope this one works out for you.
You might try calling your GP's office and talk to his nurse or him and see if they can also call you in a referral. That might get things moving quicker if the referral comes from your doctors office itself rather than a fax. Things might be different in Australia than here in the USA but we would have better luck over here if they got a phone referral from the doc himself or his nurse. Preferably the doctor.

Don't you be cluttering up the roads if you can't see well.
Hoping that you don't have to wait much longer.

Shirley in AR.

Hi Lyn, I hope you will be able to see the doctor before October. I'm not going to get my next injections until August 16th. I am really having trouble seeing so I can relate.
I was laughing about what Jenny said about driving in the blind lane with your white cane sticking out the window. Several years ago, I was getting my injections every 3 months, the last few weeks before my injections I would have trouble seeing to drive. There were days, I would walk over to the church. (I am the secretary, & it's only about 1 &1/2 miles) My husband called me from work to see if I had made it safely there. I told him I had driven over. When he acted surprised & concerned, I told him I hadn't been able to see well enough to walk over, so I had driven. The truth is, I was having a good eye day and had driven over. We joke about that a lot. I tell people sometimes that my car knows the way, so I just put the front wheels against the curb & push on the gas.
Billie in Kansas where we finally got some rain & a little cooler weather. Still muggy though.

I am so glad to hear someone else say that they drive when they can't see well enough to walk. Makes perfect sense to me!! No one understands when I say that, but it's the truth. For me, it's a balance problem with walking when my eyes are trying to close all the time. In the car, I am securely seated, with my hands on the wheel, and I don't have to concentrate on staying upright. So I just squint and steer. When I have to. My driving is much more limited than I'd like it to be. Wheels used to be my ticket to freedom; no longer.
