Judy,
Thanks for the warning.Shirley
Re: Virus Warning ...
One problem with this virus (W32.Sircam.Worm@mm) is that the message subject and the attachment name vary. When the virus sends itself using addresses in the infected computer's e-mail address book, it selects the name of a file at random on the infected computer's hard drive and uses that name for the message title and the name of the attachment. Remember that because the virus uses the infected computer's e-mail address book, you are more likely to receive an infected message from someone you know than a stranger (BEBRF received several copies from patients). A good practice even with an attachment which you are pretty sure is legitimate is to save it to disk and then run your anti-virus on it. Only after the anti-virus has okayed it, open it. Of course, this only works if your anti-virus is up-to-date. Viruses spring up so quickly that it is worth checking for virus definition updates every day. As a matter of interest, Norton Antivirus would not even let me save the attachment to disk - and that was after ZoneAlarm had inactivated the virus.

Re: Virus Warning ...
I received an e-mail from a person who possts on the BB which contained a virus. It had two parts also. Part I was a message from the sender for me to open Part 2 (smile....)and give her my comments on it. I clicked on Part 2 and a box jumped up on my screen telling me that this was a possible security hazard. My daughter told me that it was a virus so I deleted it. I was lucky that I had a warning box to tell me of possible danger. I e-mailed this person and she said she had not sent the e-mail and had received one herself from a name she didn't recognize. Re: Virus Warning ...
I have been gone a week and my vision is very blurred since last Botox. So I checked my email as soon as I got home and not the BB until today. I received the above virus exactly as you warned and since we have acrobats and it had a personal message "let me know what you think about this." I tried to open it. Thank God a screen popped up with a hand squeezing a bug and said, this message contains a virus...do not open! Whew! was I ever lucky we have a good antivirus program!
Things to watch for ...
Something to send off a warning bell in your head:Anything that has an extension address that ends in .bat or .exe means it's going to change something in your system. exe means execute (it's going to run some type of program). A .bat file is part of your system setup. Please, make sure your computer has an up to date Anti-virus program on it. Judy
Re: Virus Warning ...
I received one of those today, too. Mine was from "Ariel." It wanted my opinion and made me curious, but I deleted. Thank goodness. Thanks for looking after us, Judy.Since several of us have gotten this one, does that mean it is being sent by "one of our own" on the BB?? Sally in cool North Idaho
Re: Virus Warning ...
I received one from "Ariel" as well this morning. I find this rather curious. And a big Thank You from me too, Judy.Christel in the hot Ca. desert
Re: Virus Warning ...
Hi JudyI got one this morning from someone I had never heard of - could have been the Ariel Sally mentioned - wanting me to evaluate some pictures - I didn't wait around to see if there was an attachment, must have been if there were pictures involved - I just trashed it. Lyn
Re: Virus Warning ...
The "Ariel" one came with an attachment, something about Italy and we were to evaluate. Wonder who she is???Sally in North Idaho who is learning to be skeptical and less trusting.
