Oct 31 stay away from shopping malls

This does not pretain to BEB, but could be important
A girl who dated an Arab man told his girlfriend to stay off airplanes Sept. 11 and away from shopping malls Oct. 31. He told her he had to go away & would not be back. He has disappeared.
Lots of children do their trick & treating at malls & Halloween items will be on sale, etc. etc.
Better to be safe than sorry. Really scary. Think I'll do my Christmas by internet or catalog. Joann in AR.

Is this person who dated this Arab who said these things someone you know? Did she notifiy the FBI? There are a lot of rumors going around on the internet and other places. People are sending packages with "powder" or bomb threats several times a day that turn out to be nothing here in the Nashville area. Unfortunately a lot of mentally ill people and jerks are getting off on doing things to cause fear. Columbia is considering cancelling Halloween trick or treating and have kids just go to private parties. I've wished for that for years. It has been out of hand for years as far as I'm concerned. I don't think kids need to go door to door getting backpacks and pillow cases full of candy and it causes a lot of vandalism and kids get hurt. Dressing up and private parties for fun is great, but even going to the mall for trick or treat before this year was a bit much I think. That's my opinion and as you know they are a dime a dozen. When I worked in the ER I hated Halloween and July the 4th because of all the senseless accidents they brought into the ER. Bah humbug, I'll shut up.

No I didn't know the individual who made the report. It could be a rumor. I'don't want to spread false info, but feel it's better to be safe than sorry. Joann in ARK.

I can stay away from shopping malls for one day but anything more than that and the terrorist would have won . I would already be in hell. Ann D.

Mindy you are so cool, you have a link for everything. Rumors were discussed on one of the morning shows about people saying they heard things about the twin towers wouldn't be there next week before it happened or don't fly on Sept. 11 and reports of future dates to avoid certain activities or places and the sifting of those reports have been very time consuming for the FBI and law enforcement to determine what is real and just rumors. Thanks.

Joann, I know that your intentions are good, but I do not pay much attention to things unless I hear it directly myself or know the source to be very reliable. One of the things that I am sure the terrorists would love to do is ruin our economy so that the people start questioning our governmetns approaches to things. The worst thing we can do is to change our lifestyle if we don't have to. Obviously, a lot of people have been effected by Sept 11 beyond those who were so horrifically murderedand injured and have to change but many of us need not succumb to threats.

I guess what I am saying is that we should be more aware but certainly not afraid to live our lives in as normal a fashion as possible.

As for Halloween, there is no doubt that there will be many non terrorist related sick people who will try and do things that evening. Does that mean we should deprive our Children of one of the traditions (whether we agree with it or not) that most of us grew up with. I for one love the holiday and decorate my house and have close to 200 kids come through my door in their costumes. Being new in this neighborhood, I got to meet a lot of parents for the first time along with their kids. I am sure that over the years as these kidds grow up, they remember those that gave them a little extra. I always remember how my mother who lived next to a school in a very bad crime and high minority area would give cookies and milk each morning to the kids that stopped in on their way to school. She never locked her doors and did not worry about it because she was told by those very kids as they grew up that if anyone ever gave her a problem, they would take care of them. Sounds tough but the truth.

Oh well, long winded as usual but I tried to get my message across (right or wrong)....Alan

Alan, I love your way of thinking. I've been charging up a storm and also looking at new cars. "JUst trying to help the economy my darling Patrick (husband)." Ann Doyle

Alan God Bless your sweet soul, we know your mother had a lot to do with it from your description of her. My opinion/perception(wrapped as it is) about Halloween is through a set of eyes that have seen a great deal of pain and injury as a nurse from pranks that went wrong. I have a cousin with a steel plate in his forehead from a brick thrown at him from the back of a truck. I decorate my porch and meet the kids with a smile, but I still wish it were confined to private parties and events instead of knocking on doors. I live in a very small neighborhood that is 2 miles from town and we have several children here, but I swear they were coming from miles away; some teenagers with no costumes and just walking up to the door with their backpacks unzipped and turning around so you could drop in treats. I had bags and bags of treats and I ran out in 2 hours and had to turn the lights off and ignore them for the rest of the night. Some had pillowcases so full they couldn't carry them...they dragged them on the ground. I'm pleased to meet the neighbors and their kids, but 85% I'd never seen before. It is not the kids fault. I agree with you we must continue to live our lives as before and not let fear control our lives. And like Ann I'm spending my money to keep the economy going, hey Ann considered a Saturn?? (I'd like my husband to keep working.) See you at the mall and I'll be wearing my costume when I greet the masses on Oct. 31.

We, too, are helping to keep the economy going. In fact we're taking a trip to Ariz & Nev. next week for 6 days. Planes, Buses, & train rides, etc. I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon & that's included.
I'm not a great Halloween fan, Some of the costumes are too devilish, like the witch, monsters, devil & the like. The churches who have parties where the children dress up in Biblical costumes are great. Maybe this year we'll see Uncle Sam, Yogi Bear, Statue of Liberty & more patriotic characters.
I'm glad some of you enjoy shopping. With Bleph, I can't stand it, I want our of the store as quickly as possible. I did have a great experience the last time I shopped however. It was early morning & I was the 1st shopper in the store. The clerk was very helpful & I ended up buying 4 articles of clothes. It was a small store where I was more comfortable.

just small talk

I too feel better in smaller malls or stores and I wear my hat/cap/visor with sunglasses. Our town is small enough to kind of be use to me and don't report me as a suspicious character. I really do have this one denium hat and wearing it with dark glasses I saw myself in the mirror one day and had to laugh because I did look like those early sketches of the unibomber before he was caught. One thing this disorder has helped me know is that my smile is more important than my ego. I had always been complimented for my beautiful blue eyes and thought making eye contact was how to best connect with people. Now I know my smile and my caring attitude are my best assets and I don't feel naked without my makeup (which I had always thought was a must to put on first thing since a teenager). I have a knowing about myself and that I am not alone that BEB has helped solidify. It is one of the gifts from this terrible disorder...knowing I can survive and go with the flow of whatever life brings my way.
