CAST AWAY !!

Posted by Christel-California ® , Oct 19,2001,12:33   Archive
Today is Joyce's CAST-OFF party, hope everybody can attend. I'm at her house now, the first one, and she's not home, probably at the Dr. getting the cast off. Hope she left a key under the door mat, so I can get in and start whipping the cream to go with a ton of strawberries I brought. I'm sure Sally will show up with angel food cake.
Happy cast-off-day, Joyce.

Christel- glad you could make it. Let me throw a few things in the drawers and shove some stuff in the closets so the house will look someone straighten up. I did get back just a while ago and was having such fun reading the BB that I hadn't checked in yet.

Yes the cast came off, Hallujah!! and he put on a stiffer shoe (if that what you want to call it). My ankles are weak so I still have to use one crutch and he wanted me to not put my full weight on it yet. It still has not healed , which he said was normal so I still will take it easy for several more weeks.

My friend who drove me today also took me to a few stores. I went to Lowe's hardware and bought some more Mircle Grow potting soil and some "cow manure fertilizer", two azaleas and one Rhododendron ( red blooms) I know they won't bloom till nexr year but now is the time to plant. The doctors don't know how stubborn and independent I can be but I will get this stuff planted but I will be extra careful. When I saw Delaine's pictures I was so envious and inspired and it's all her fault.

My eyes are still doing better, mornings are still fuzzy (ointment) but eyes are still open. I think a headache bug is going around because I have had a headache everyday this week and several have told me that they gave had one also.

Ok, everyone come on over and lets PART-TAY!!! Remember strawberrries in all forms are welcome.

You guys are such good friends - I appreciate you so much. Don't mean to be "gushy" but I am thankful for my friends here at home and also on the BB.

Joyce in NC where the Furniture Market started today. For you who are not in the know, twice a year we have a Furniture Market and retail people come from all over the US and even over seas to look at our "showplaces" and buy. I heard that a lot of the people from overseas did not come (yea) because they were araid to fly. I was afraid some one who was a terrorist would come over here and cause trouble. Furniture is our # 1 money maker and a lot of jobs depend on it. I hope for a good market because that means jobs for the people around here.

Sounds like you have reason to celebrate. Count me in. Just remember not to hide stuff in the oven in case Sally wants to bake the cake at your place.

Hi you guys, I have been lurking & sometimes I haven't had time to post, or even read them, but if you all are having a party for Joyce I want to come, especially if you are having strawberries (which I love) Joyce I'm glad you got your cast off, but don't get too carried away planting things.
Virginia, I had a friend several years ago that when she found out company was coming, she hid her dirty dishes in the oven. Her son, who was 3 or 4 years old at the time turned the oven light on. I don't think she did that again.

I've been in the yard all day. Made another flower bed and moved somethings around and planted bulbs. I bought some pansies but got too tired to plant them or all of the 100 bulbs. Oh well tomorrow is another day. I had so much fun. Now if I could just get my dog Dakota to stay out of the beds....but she is almost 10 and I doubt she will change, so I have to put up the little fences to keep her out. At the rate I'm going there is a bet going on in the neighborhood that pretty soon Rusty will have no grass to mow. I said all that to say I'll be in my grungy dirty clothes and shoes so don't bother vacuuming. I'll sit on the floor so I won't get anything else dirty and I'm not taking a bath so you may not want to get to close, but hey....let's party! By the way Encore Azaleas bloom fall and spring. I have some coral ones and they are just starting to bloom. So glad the cast is off.

It used to bother Carl when I wanted to expand my borders, but less grass to mow started to sound good to him. I planted some Encore Azaleas last year and they are blooming now. Mine are a tomato red. It's been great weather for gardening here - guess I'll be out this weekend getting grungy, too. Don't have my pansies yet, but will soon.

Geez Virginia, got downstairs and realized I'd said the wrong flower instead of Encore azalea and ran upstairs to edit. When I posted you had already posted. I planted 3 last year and the cold weather bit their little heads off. I cut them back and 2 came back. I buy from Lowes so there was a year warranty, so I got my money back and planted coral impatients in between the 2 that lived and they did great and now the azaleas are about to bloom.

I had wondered about the hardiness of Encore azaleas for you. Some of the nurseries here are even hesitant to sell them. Mine made it through the winter last year just fine, but didn't bloom as well in the spring as I would have liked. They look great now, though. We planted hundreds of them at the Garden last fall and some of them didn't make it, some had to be cut back like yours and came back later, others have done great. Those that have done best had a little tree cover that may have protected them (mine don't).

I'll be at Joyce's party, too. I'm bringing fresh strawberries and I want some of the angel food cake and some shortcake. I thought that while I was at Joyce's that I would make up some strawberry preserves for us to have later. Everyone can take a jar of them home. I hope that you are making lots of whipped cream. I love it. Sorry that I'm late but had to go play at the fair for awhile. I'll bring along some fudge sauce, also. I'll need my DR. Pepper if this party is going to run late and keep us all up. It is a sleepover, isn't it?
I just hope that Delaine and Virginia shower before they come. They have been playing out in their gardens, you know.
Joyce, just put all the clutter in the laundry room and shut the door. you won't catch any of us ladies in the laundry room. Everything will be totally safe there.

Don't worry, I made tons of whipped cream, I love it too.
Delaine refused to take a bath, can you believe it? :-)

I bet Joyce has got a shower. We'll just gang up on Delaine and toss her in. She'll get over it when she sees the pretty strawberry washcloths and towels and the strawberry scented soap and shampoo and the big fluffy white robe with, you guessed it, strawberries decorating it.

Why must we give our jam and preserves away Christel? My kids get so mad at me. They say "I thought you just made two batches of that. Where did it all go?" I'm always giving it away to somebody. We, the makers of jam, that never seem to have any of our own. :-(

Shirley in AR. Happens to cookies, too.

Ok, you win...I love strawberry shampoo and soap and the robe sounds great. Could I have some fuzzy strawberry houseshoes, too? Maybe that's the picture I'll use for the Bephro Babes Calendar. I'm allergic to many fragrances and can't wear perfume, but I can wear strawberry and coconut. I use those flavors of shampoo, but now have to use the baby shampoo to keep from burning my eyes. Promise me you'll be careful and not get soap in my eyes when you toss me in the shower.

Yuk! Sally you know I don't do dairy products and sour butter milk would be as bad as B O !!! I'm sorry but Shirley's strawberry idea was much more fun and I smelled so good afterwards. I've got to get that movie for my Granddaughter and you can come and watch with us.

joyce, i've had this recipe a long time. Strawberries Manhattan: wash some large fresh strawberries, dip them into a bowl of sour cream, and then into a bowl of brown sugar. Each one by itself , i mean, definitely a finger h'ors d'oevre or dessert.

Kathy, I had those at someone's dinner party once and they were very good, even though I don't particularly like sour cream.

Kathi, someone else, namely my husband, did it for me. Why, do you have a virus?

Kathy, I had a message from a stranger. You have to click on the name to delete it, but it kept multiplying. I knew I had other messages, but his message blocked all the others. There were no attachments, which I wouldn't open from strangers anyway. I assumed it was a virus and since I had just been reading various virus warnings I got a little freaked out. Called my husband and asked him to "do something". He did, end of story. There seems to be no damage done. We checked things out, before I sent anything to anyone, didn't want to pass it on.

Yes I made it. I was a litle late - Crystal got here first and the other showed up at different times. I had posted earlier how good all the strawberries were and thanked everyone for coming. You probably just missed seeing that.
