Doctor Indifference

Hi! I'm the new contributor (as of last week). I was glad to find your bulletin board as some of the messages were exactly what I have been going through for about six months. Today I had a regular appointment with my eye doctor (I have glaucoma). He has been telling me my eyes are just dry. I tried to bring up the subject of blepharospasm and he just wanted to discuss my glaucoma, wants me to have another laser surgery on my left eye. The first one did me no good about five years ago. When I mentioned blepharospasm he said he didn't think I had it at all. If you had it, he said, it would not be just on awakening, your eyes would stay closed all day. He said he had never really seen this disease! He said just to use artificial tears. I'm going to have to find a good ophthalmic neurologist in the Connecticut area as he does not seem to have any interest in referring me to one.

Hi Ruth:
I just heard of someone else with BEB who sees a Doc in the Waterbury area. I can try to find out the name if that is close to you.
:) Kerry in Rocky Hill, CT (just South of Hartford)

Thanks Kerry. It is about a 45 minute ride, definitely doable. Would appreciate it.

Hi again, Ruth,
I just wanted you to know that I have a message in to the woman that I spoke of who goes to a doc in Waterbury. As soon as I hear back from her, I'll post. I know how hard it is to wait for treatment - after about 10 different docs ( of all makes and models) my Mom finally got hooked up with Dr. Susan Bressman in NYC. She is doing a lot of research on Dystonia and is not only brilliant but kind as well.
I'll be in touch soon.
:) Kerry in CT where they are calling for a white Christmas.

Hi Ruth,

You can contact the BEBRF and they will be able to give you a list of neuro opthalmologists in your area.

Good luck and welcome to the BB.

Dee in OR

I suggest you call Mass. Eye & Ear in Cambridge, MA and set up an appointment. They are certainly very much aware of BEB I was diagnosed there in 1990) and will give you an authoritative diagnosis.

Thanks Lynn. I will do this if I can't find someone a little closer. I know they are good because I was diagnosed with glaucoma there five years ago.
