TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

As I posted in my SSD Hearing post, the judge has told me he is going to recommend that my drivers license be suspended if he rules in my favor (and it certainly sounded as if he would.) I am hopeful of keeping a restricted license but am trying to get my ducks in a row if I do lose all my driving priveledges. Does anyone know how to find some type of chauffer service? I don't even know where to start. My biggest concern is if I have to take a child to the doctor when sick and getting my youngest to preschool. She is only 3 1/2. Even when she begins kindergarten, it is only half day here so she can only ride the bus one way. I can probably find another mom to help with that but it scares me to be responsible for 2 little girls, hubby a fireman with 24 hour shifts (and a part time nursing job) and to not be able to leave my house for ANY reason. Just trying to reassure myself that I can hire a "driver" and our lives won't change much more than they already have!

Kelly, is there someone in your neighborhood or from your church, or wife of another fireman, so someone who would like to earn some spending money that could help you out with transportation? It's sad that you're so young & have BEB. Good luck .

I am lucky to have great neighbors who have told me they would help me out but I don't want to depend on them for all the time. With several children of their own, life is busy enough without having to juggle my schedule as well. And I know they wouldn't take money from me. My youngest is still in a carseat which complicates things! I should check with my church though. There may be many volunteers who help out those in need or maybe they can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for the idea.

yes, kelly, check with your church. mine has helped me a lot. that is rough that you don't even have cab service ! horrendously expensive tho it may be. i mean what are you supposed to do in case of emergency? like food for your kids and yourself, etc.?

You could be giving someone else the opportunity to feel good about themselves by being helpful. Annn Doyle

Absolutely!! I'm praying for the best, which is to keep a restricted license, but I need to plan for the worst, no license at all. My biggest thing is that my children not suffer because of this - preschool, soccer, dance...and the list goes on. If I knew there was an alternative and be assured we could get where we needed to be I would feel some comfort in all of this.
Thanks,
Kelly

Most larger cities have free or reasonable transportation. Ours is called grits. Look under transit in the city or county part of your phone book or ask the library. You have to tell them the day before and the time and then when you are through , they pick you up. I'm sure different cities have different rules. There is hope. Ann Doyle

While I don't live in what I would consider a small town (45,000), it is not large enough to have public transportation yet - not even a cab service. I know the Dallas transit is moving north but it will be a few years before it makes it this far. I will ask the library for any info they have on any other service that might be available here.

Kelly, in Fort Smith we have a program called Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). They have volunteers who drive for the handicapped. Maybe there's a program similar in your area. I believe it's government supported & the volunteers may get mileage reimbursed thru the program. That's worth checking. Again Best of luck.
