Dry Eyes

In the Dec 25 edition of "Woman's World" magazine, available at supermarket checkouts and other places, it states"...ask your doctor about taking HydroEye, an oral supplement available through ophthalmologists that appears to relieve even severe symptoms. Researchers believe it boosts the body's supply of eye-moisturizing tear components like omega-6 fatty acids." MaryNY (not near Buffalo!)

It looks to me like it is similar to Moistur-Eyes, which some of us have tried. This is what the web site had to say:
"HydroEye™ is a special formulation for dry eyes. It contains a synergistic blend of omega-6 fatty acids, mucin complex, and nutrient cofactors that help support healthy function of the tear glands."
Those of us who have tried Moistur-Eyes have had mixed results.

It is available on the katzen web site. I'm not recommending it - I had never heard of it, but just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone wanted more info.

I took Moistur-Eyes and Bilberry with Lutein for a long time and couldn't tell they helped me at all. Other people say they work for them. Lutein is more for retina/internal eye health and wouldn't hurt anyone, but probably wouldn't change our symptoms which is caused by dry eyes and muscle spasms. Bilberry helps some with light sensitivity. Moisur-Eyes had some good things in it, but is not cheap and I'm taking something else that has the same things in it in a shake. I get tired of swallowing pills and sometimes have trouble swallowing them.

well mary, maybe if you could ask your doctor and i will ask mine and others could also, we could get a consensus of opinion on whether taking these supplements could possibly overide the necessity of using all these eye lubricants and gels. i for one find them messy, uncomfortable and hard to wake up with in the morning. i also HATE swallowing pills, but if these supplements were an answer, then i would. i'm not talking about the refresh tears which i use daily, but the overnight lubricants.

Just some info I got from a friend about HydroEye. I take Lutien but really haven't noticed any difference. I still use tons of eye drops - I think I should buy stock with Alcon!

Hi Kathy and Dee

I have been taking HRT for about 2 years and have not noticed that 'dry eye' is any worse than it was before. Having had BEB for about 13 years now, I am so used to having problems with my eyes that I tend not to notice minor irritations. I do notice that 'dry eye' is worse when the Botox effect is strongest.

Hi Lyn,

Am I correct in believing that you live far away from the fires? Can't recall where you said you live down under, and am not the greatest at geography anyway. They are so terrible, and hard to believe that kids could be so "bored" as to set their own neighborhoods on fire!!

Hi Sally

Yes, I am on the West Coast and the fires are on the East Coast. It rained there in some parts recently but in others the fires are still burning. Hard to believe but true - it was kids - their father even said on TV that it was a 'prank' !!!!!!! People are really up in arms because all they get is a talking to and most people believe this is not enough.

Lyn, from a very mild summer in WA - cannot recall a summer so cool, not that I am complaining !
