Sore shoulders & aching arms

My shoulders & arms have been hurting so much I've been to my GP twice. He's treating me for arthritis with celebrex, and I haven't had any relief. It dawned on me finally the cause is probably from having to hold my eyes open so much. So I've been trying to keep my arms down. Fortunately I'm scheduled for a limited myectomy Jan 15 & 17th, so I hope & pray that will help. Last night I took a Tylenol PM for the arm pain & got a good nights sleep. I've stayed off the computer too as that's where I really had to use my arms for the eyes.

Joann in Ark where we had rain during the night & below freezing weather so roads were slick this a.m. & branches had little icicles.

Hi Joann,

My arms, shoulders and neck hurt all the time. I think it is just from the dystonia. Maybe you have more dystonia than just the blephs? Nothing helps ease the pain either.

Good luck with your limited myectomy.

joann, so sorry the celebrex doesn't help with the pain. i also have soreness in my shoulders, neck and sometimes arms and the celebrexx really works. maybe it is a combination of dystonia and arthritis. you can take up to 2 of the 100 mg. a day and remember it does take a few days to build up in your system.
i really hope your surgery turns out well too !

I experience the sore shoulders and neck when my shots are running out. My eyes hate to stay open and I find myself shrugging my shoulders and tipping my head back. This tightens everything up making it ache. Right now it is doing it big time. I go on Wednesday to get Botox. I am ready!!!

Hi Joann,
Sorry your shoulders and arms are giving you problems. I also hope your surgery goes well.
My husband and I are trying to recover from the flu that left us with bad colds. Do we ever shake the aches and pains...here's hoping so.

also joann, you can try vioxx and see if that works better for you. it is also an arthritis medication that works on pain, however, the celebrex works on my eye spasms and the vioxx does not. that is why i am taking the celebrex. ALSO, one of the best tips on this bb was from jaelline who said that surgical tape helped keep her eyes open. maybe if you used the clear tape and see if it worked, you could rest your poor arms. it is awkward to do yourself, maybe your husband could help you.

Vioxx made me sick so couldn't use that. However I haven't given the celebrex a fair trial. It was just prescribed a week or 10 days ago & the Dr. said to quit taking it 10 days before surgery. So I'll take the celebrex after the myectomy.
I've appreciated everyones comments. Thanks.
Joann

I have chronic problems with my neck, shoulders and under my shoulder blade. I have knots and spasms all the time and see a muscular therapist every month. I am allergic to all anti-inflammatories so my options are quite limited. I don't use my hand to hold my eyes open but I struggle all the time to keep them open and I can feel my neck and shoulders tense in the process.

that's where all of my tension occurs also as well as my lower back. i read in some medical news to be on the lookout for new cox-2 pain inhibitors this year, so maybe you could find something eventually to help you there. i massage these areas mentioned my self , when the tension is bad, but only briefly as it tires my arms out. how long does the massage's effects relieve these knots? i mean, a couple of days or a week? or what?

I have trouble with tightness in my hip also. The massage usually lasts 2-3 weeks. I try and only go once a month at $85/hr but I have gone a couple of times when I'm really bad-like now. My shots have long worn off and I'm going Wed for botox plus with the holidays I have been worse than usual. A good massage therapist is priceless! I haven't heard of cox-2 pain inhibitors. What are they?

they are both the celebrex and vioxx. i'm not sure if cox-2 is synonymous with anti-inflammatory, which you say you are allergic to.
