Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND
Hi Kelly,I've been trying to figure this one out for years and this has been discussed on this bb! I used Solar Shield wrap-around dark glasses but they get icy cold in our cold winters and don't do a lot to keepthe wind out. I bought a pair of small (cheap) goggles that I thought would help and had anti-fog put on them - within 2 minutes outside in the cold they completely fogged up (I now use them for cutting up onions if you can believe it-works great)! I checked out ski goggles - which I'm sure would help - but I can't imagine wearing them when I go shopping (I still have a bit of vanity left I'm afraid-the ski goggles are enormous and brightly coloured). I have purchased a pair of glacier sun glasses - they have leather sides, which can be taken off in the warmer weather, and there is a piece of the sunglass that goes across the top. As I've been sick since Dec. 25th with an awful virus, I only have used them once, whilst waiting for a friend just yesterday to pick me up in her car. I noticed the left eye lense fogging up a bit - I don't know if they are going to work, and they were expensive. If you come up with anything please let me know. Best wishes. June in Toronto (beb/meige) - where it is to be milder today (5degC) and the sun is already shining.
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND/june
love the onion idea! june did you get sore achy muscles with this virus? i have them now with this cold/sinus thing.
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND/june
Hi Kathy,Glad you like the `onion goggles thingummy' - my family in the U.K. think it is so funny they want a picture of me wearing them! No I didn't get the achyness with this virus - just all the `horrible stuff in my head, nose, throat, sinus, etc.) and not being able to relieve it. I don't think the antibiotics are going to finish the job, because I'm still coughing whenever I move (especially when I have to go outside). Guess I'll have to see the doctor again. Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND
Kelly - For a long time, I used some dark glasses (wrap-a-round) that my mother gave me after she had cataract surgery. She had a couple of pairs that the doctor had given her. I recently bought some Solar Shield wrap-a-rounds, and they don't work as well as the free ones! I think it's because, although they are loose and fit over my glasses, they have a broader area along the sides. Maybe you could ask an eye doctor, or someone who works with cataract patients, to get a pair of those for you. I live in the North Country ! We finally have about 6" of snow, and, believe me, I'm used to cold windy days. Mary
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND
Someone suggested I try SAFETY GLASSES to help prevent the wind and cold air from getting so much to the eyes. A friend had a pair in her car (I'm sure their must be many more types) but they were too big as I don't wear glasses all the time and didn't seem as good as Solar Shields. Sometime (when I stop coughing so much) I'm going to check out safety glasses more. I wonder if welding glasses are the same as safety glasses - that was another suggestion - theymay have to be darkened though?June in Toronto (beb/meige)
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND
You've given me some good ideas to at least try. When I'm just sitting outside while the kids play with the neighbors in the culdesac it is not as big of a problem for me but I'm trying to help my husband coach soccer and I really need to be able to see to do that. I thought about a ski mask but hadn't thought about safety glasses.
Thanks
Kelly
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND/kelly
no, but these other people seem to know what to do. my eyes have been worse even inside on extremely windy days. figure out that one!
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND/kelly
KellyI wish I could remember the name of the glasses I got from an optical store. They are wrap arounds attached to either a sun visor or baseball cap which ever you prefer. the visor is made out or neopreane. They close with velcro so they fit snug to your head and are very comfortable. I did find the visor to be a little hot. Maybe the cap would be better.
They actually use them for all sports like cycling. You might look at a bike store. They were pretty expensive I think. About 80 dollars (canadian) I have left them at my cottage because I only use them when I am in the boat. They work great. I posted the name last year when I got them, probably around May or June. I will try to get the name for you from the place I bought them from but it could take me a few days. Catherine, who has been around sick people for a couple of weeks and is now getting the dreaded cold!
Re: SHUT DOWN BY WIND/kelly
Am I ever interested! If you can get the name I would be forever grateful! That would be perfect and inconspicuous for sports!
