Spasms in Neck and Back

Hi Everyone

I hope you remember me. I haven't posted for a while because I've been pretty busy. Actually, I haven't been on the BB for very long.

Hope everyone is starting the new year out in good health and spirits in spite of this "thing" we have to deal with.

I am going on my fourth month without botox. Usually I can hardly make it to three. Don't know why this is. It's the first time since I was diagnosed in 1996. Don't know how many units of botox I've been getting, but maybe my doc has finally hit on a right dosage --- we'll see. A question I wanted to ask any of you is that do any of you ever get muscle spasms in your neck and back? I am suffering with it right now and seem to every once in a while. Am wondering if there is a connection. Can any of you relate to this?

Carol Brown, beb/meige

Hi and welcome back. Glad your Botox is working so well. Sorry about the other spasms. I do have spasms in neck and shoulders. I attributed it to Fibromyalgia until I got BEB and now think they are related. I've had Botox in my shoulders once and it did help for a few weeks. The spasms come and go, so I've choosen not to get more Botox there. I'm sure many others can relate.

Hi Delaine

Thanks for the reply. You know, I did get botox in the back of my neck one time and I couldn't bend over for a week. It scared me to death so am not going to do that anymore. These spasms I get aren't all the time either, that goodness, so I just deal with them the best I can.

I get spasms in my neck shoulders and shoulder blades regularly. I really believe it is related to the meige. I clench my jaw all night. I see a muscular therapist every month to help with the pain. I just bought a menthol pain patch today to try because, for some reason, I have been worse lately.

I was wondering if you had a mouth guard made at the dentist if that would help with the clenching of the teeth. I just had caps put on and had a guard made so I don't grind the new teeth down. Maybe this would help. I really noticed a difference.

I have been wearing a night guard for 6 years. It does help alleviate some of the pain but for some reason my bite continuously changes and I have to go in regularly to have it readjusted. I recently had to have it rebuilt because there wasn't much left at the back and looks like I'm going to have to do it again soon. You are right - without it the pain would be so bad I would be on pain meds all the time!

I get spasms in my neck and back and I attribute it to my generalized dystonia. Maybe you have more than just BB?

Carol:

Sounds only too familiar! It may or may not be Dystonia. e-mail me if you would. A movement disorder specialist sounds like a good bet for you to look into.
