Some newcomers to the bulletin board may be getting the impression that
there is a nameless, faceless group who arbitrarily ban members for
minor transgressions. This is not the case. In the three plus years
that the Dystonia and Blepharospasm bulletin boards have been
operating, only two individuals have been banned. One of these was a
person who signed his posts as "Uncle Phil." As the Administrator/Webmaster, I was the one who implemented the ban
and wrote Uncle Phil explaining why I was doing so. However, my action
was based on the unanimous consensus of those responsible for the two
bulletin boards - myself as Administrator, Judy Blackman as Moderator of
the Blepharospasm Bulletin Board, Don Peaslee as Vice-President of
BEBRF, and Jeff Harris and Mary Beth Chan as Moderators of the Dystonia
Bulletin Board.
At the time, we did not feel it appropriate to broadcast the reasons for
the ban and we still feel that. Suffice it to say that the ban was not
because of a single incident but rather a pattern of behaviour which we
felt could be very destructive to the forum and harmful to individual
members.
As for forgiveness, in my letter to Uncle Phil, I said, "If, one year
from now, you are still interested in participating in the bulletin
boards, you may write me asking that the decision be reviewed." One
year passed on October 01, 2001 but I have not heard from him.

good job and good explanation. how is don peaselee doing? i initialy corresponded with him before i felt comfortable going on to this bb. he was very understanding and nice.

Hi Kathy, I, too, appreciated Bob's explanation of the situation. And yes, Don Peaslee is the best. I haven't emailed him in a while but maybe he will respond to your post and let us know how he is doing. He is a major "lurker".
