Botox injection sites

I brought up this issue in Feb. 01 with responses from Virginia, Shirley, Sally, June, Doris and Joanne J. I'm back and hopefully can
make this clear. My first neuro injected between eyebrows(squint),
about 3/4 along the eyebrow where it generally curves, outer corner
of eye and sometimes one underneath the eye. Result was eyes didn't
squeeze but upper eyelid flickered quite a bit. After networking on
bb and elsewhere, I found out that those of you who have injections directly in upper eyelid get good results. My neuro #2 injects between
eyebrows(squint), outer corner of eye and 2 shots directly in upper lid,(but not 3/4 along the eyebrow where it generally curves)and a shot under lower eyelid. My first round of injections with
Neuro #2 was effective in that the eyelid flickering was eliminated but my eyes did not completely close so had to be taped shut at night which
many of you deal with. So when Neuro#2 injected the second time, he
used less toxin in upper eyelids hoping my eyes would then close. Eyes are not really squeezing, but closing about 3/4 way just enough to block
vision and pulling from upper area of eye by eyebrow where Neuro 1
injected but Neuro 2 will not. :<) So my next injections with Neuro 2 are for 60 days rather than 90 which I don't like. My question is for those of you who receive injections directly in the upper eyelid, where else are you injected around the eye? Thanks for your patience in
deciphering this and responding as I am at the crossroads again with the neuros. Joanne M. San Diego, CA

Hi Joanne,
Everybody says that the injection sites make a big difference, and it seems like different docs use different sites. I guess it needs to be personalized for best results. The last time I got injections I had the best results I've had for over a year. I got two injections in each upper eyelid (at sides) and two just below each eye (at sides). Also got one at outer corner of each eye and one in the TMJ area on each side of face. This was the routine we followed until last time the doc also added one more site just above the inside of the eyebrow. This really helped the squeezing from the forehead area. So I got 7 injections on each side totaling 52.5 units each side, and each side must be done on a separate day for insurance to cover it.
I talked to Coleen D who is now getting botox at Wills Eye in Philly PA. She got good results, and from what I can understand she had an additional site a little higher up in the center of the forehead, making an inverted triangle. I will talk to my doc about this for my next injections Feb 5th & 6th as most of my squeezing was coming from top of the eyes.
Do I understand correctly that you got help from a site above the eyebrow, and 3/4 towards the outside? As to the site between the eyebrows (squint), is that just one injection in the middle at the squint line?
I pray you can get things to work better next time. If you didn't understand what I said, please feel free to ask. If only we could draw a diagram of the sites it would be easier to show.

Thanks for the detailed response, Tim. Yes, the site 3/4 towards outside of eyebrow helped...actually there was one above and one
right under the eyebrow. Neuro 2 says studies have shown this is a
likely site for ptosis. I have had one injection in mid squint line, but the last few times it has been more toward eyebrow just a bit away
from the mid squint line. I now realize how critical all of this actually is. I thought this new neuro was my answer but as we all know
this disorder is more complicated than that. I'll determine the result
this next time around (Feb. 8) and go from there. I am sure I need
more toxin since this last time I had a TOTAL of 45 units around both
eyes. He also injected total of 15 units in the outer neck cords to help with the grimacing and breathing. Maybe a temporary 10% improvement there. Anyway, I was really glad to hear you had better results this last time around. That's wonderful. Take care and I'll keep you posted. Joanne M. San Diego, CA

can we ever really expect the results of our injections to be uniform each time? it's good that you have it pinpointed so specifically, but it seems you want perfection. do you think this change in injection sites was the reason for the time element of effectiveness?

No, I don't expect uniform results each time but I am taking note of specific patterns when different areas are injected. Actually, I not only had a change in injection sites, but the amount of toxin at the sites was quite different as well so I am convinced that is the reason for the time element. I do realize there are other factors here but am just doing the best I know how to get the best result possible. Aren't we all striving for that? Joanne Matuzas, San Diego, CA

Hi Joanne. I agree with Neuro 2 about that site that is likely to give you a ptosis. I sure wish that we could draw pictures of all this on the bulletin board or that there was a standard diagram of the face that all the doctors used and that we could mark where our injections were given and how much. I really think that it is sometimes a problem for some doctors to go by the notes that they take and the picture that they drew themselves as to remembering what they did the last time and what they will do the next time.
You keep searching for what works best for you.

I was so glad to hear that you are going to be a support group leader. You'll be really good at that. You have a very kind and caring personality and I know that you will do well. Just don't try to do too much.

Shirley still searching for answers, too.

Hi Joanne,

I believe mine are above the eyebrow (center of each one), middle of eyelid, inner corner of eye, outer corner, and below eye ... five injections on each side.

Sally in North Idaho who had the first good eye day in a long while, then I spent 2 1/2 hours in a meeting room lighted by fluorescent torture. Rats!!!!
