Starting a support group & conference this year

I wasn't planning on attending the conference this year and wait until it was in Alabama next year which would be much closer and hopefully a little cooler. Today I got an offer I couldn't refuse. Mary Lou called and asked me to present something in Houston. I was too flattered to say no. You know teaching and speaking are "roof top experiences for me." Remember Shirley told me a long long time ago I should write an article for the newsletter about starting and facilitating a support group. I put it off, but finally did write something and emailed it to Mary Smith and she passed it on to Mary Lou for consideration. She said she really didn't have room in the newsletter, but would I speak about what I had written on Aug. 23rd from 4-4:30. She also wants me to develop a brochure, handout or packet with information about how to start and facilitate a support group. Thanks for the inspiration from all of you. When I told my husband, he said, "Houston? The end of Aug.? I don't think so." I told him I'd just have to fly by myself or with someone else who might be going from the Nashville area. Anyone need a room mate for the conference?

Congratulations, Delaine!!! They couldn't have chosen a more capable person than you. Now you'll have the fun and excitement of getting all the material ready. Good luck.

Sally in North Idaho who would love to meet you, but will not be going to Houson.

Congrats Delaine. I am going to the conference so it will be great to finally meet you. I may be going alone too. I don't have anyone as of yet to watch the girls and I think it would be a waste of time and money to take them along. Aron would be busy entertaining them and wouldn't be able to participate in anything so what is the point? I'm planning to fly (45 min flight on Southwest). I'm planning to help Nancy Townsend and Linda Webb with the welcome - good ole Texas Hospitality!
Kelly

Way to go Delaine. You'll do great. It will encourage others to start support groups and also be beneficial for those that would like to make some changes in their groups. It can only help. I'm glad that speaking is a "roof top experience" for you. For many of us it is more of a terrifying shut down experience.
And besides all that, hopefully Roy and I will attend the conference and I'll get to see you again and get to meet Kelly.
Rusty may change his mind but if not, I'm sure that you will be able to find a flying buddy and room mate.

Shirley in Arkansas who would enjoy the "lift" of a conference right now

Actually, Delaine, the conference won't be in Alabama until 2004, so it's a good thing that you are going ahead with the presentation in Houston. We're talking about having it in the fall, since the last year and this, there's been some discussion about the heat in the summer. I know you'll do a good job and there will be BB people there to cheer you on.

Where is it going to be in 2003? Sorry I got my wires crossed about that. I do hope we can start having them later or more to the north if they are in Aug.

In 2003 it will be more to the north (Philadelphia, I think), but my guess is that it is still hot there in August. I don't know what the dates are for 2003.

Houston in Aug will be hot (I'm used to it) so I can understand that but since we will be spending all of our time inside it shouldn't be too big of a problem. I'm glad I'm able to attend this year because if they move them to the fall that will leave me out for good. When you have small kids it is too busy during the school year with sports to be gone (but I'm only one of a few with this problem). Looking forward to meeting as many as possible in Houston.

Kelly in Dallas (where my daughter will play 3 soccer games in tomorrows tounament. It will probably be 30 degrees for our first game and "us Texans" aren't used to that kind of cold!)
