Re: who and when was anyone ever making fun of the South??
No private joke Kathy. Everyone just having a little fun with southern hillbilly dialect with a few other things thrown in. If there was a private joke-I missed it, too and you know that I don't miss much.

If you go back and read the whole thing, I made fun of Wisconsin, Mich, and Ky. Me, I'm prejudice against all state accents except PeorEE, Ill. where people have some KNOW HOW to turn RITECHE here to go to the HOSPIL when they are sick. Stick with me kiddo, I'll learn ya. Ann Doyle

I sure am glad that you are not prejudice against us "damn yankees" from New England. We are after all the Super Bowl Champions of the World. Go Pats. Kidding aside, we had a great day today with over a million and a quarter people showing up for a parade in Boston to celeebrate the victory. The wind chill factor was near zero but that did not dampen the warmth of the people toward this first ever championship for the team.

Glad your team won, Alan, and you had a good time at the parade (I even understand what you said!). I should get some cockney slang going (from London, U.K.), but feel I won't remember very much and then I'd be on my own to defend myself:-)

Hi Alan ... Good to see you back from Aruba and posting again. Are you going to write a dictionary, also? We got kind of used to "your" accent when the Kennedys were in power.
Re : Re: who and when was anyone ever making fun of the South?? --- Alan Phair Posted by Sally - in - Idaho ® , Feb 06,2002,21:48 Top of Thread Archive Congratulations on Super Bowl win. What a disaster here in my village ... Fox channel was out of the town's cable!!! Oh my. One of my sons has the job of sweeping the satellite dishes for the cable company and as soon as he came in to watch the game, I told him he'd better get up there and sweep because there was nothing on that channel. He went twice, then his brother went to make sure he was doing it right. They even attempted to adjust the setting on the control panel. No luck. Called the cable company to assure them he had swept and told them they'd better send a technician. They said they had already had more than 50 calls from here. Considering we have a population of about 200 and many have their own satellite dishes, that must have been just about all their customers! Bet a lot of people asked for a refund! My sons were lucky to have an old-fashioned grandmother who refuses to get cable and can get Fox as one of the five channels she gets with antenna. So they went to her house.
Sally in North Idaho who is waiting for all these regional dialect dictionaries to be completed.
