Head Trauma and BEB

I know we've discussed this before and we know some people get BEB after head or neck trauma. How many know they have had some sort of head or neck trauma? How many know if they were delivered with forceps or their Mom had a long difficult delivery with you?

I know I was a forceps delivery, was in 2 accidents that caused some whiplash, and was hit hard enough in the face to break my nose and black both eyes and numb my nose for years, so that probably affected my spine and brain. My neck has an "S" curve that has improved some with exercise, massage and chiropracter treatments. My MRI was normal.

My mother had a long, difficult delivery with me and I believe forceps were used, but couldn'd swear to that and no one left around to ask.

When I was 19 I ran my head full force against a metal box which was attached at a corner of a house which I was turning. I remember that as a less than pleasant experience, but beyond a bruise I don't remember any damamge done.

Minor car accident not involving the head at all.

In '85 was hit across the face hard enough to have my nose broken.

Worse than that was emotional abuse and gas light treatment. I ended up with all the symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, extreme depressions and started taking pills for the first time in my life. It didn't take long for this disorder to rear it's ugly head after that.
So, what causes it? It's anybody's guess, but I have my suspicions.
On the other hand, there may be different causes for different people.
My MRI was normal as well.

Kathy, it's when someone consistently indulges in insidious little actions and denies doing them when called upon, so that the recipient of these actions starts to doublt his/her sanity after a while.

Rent the movie "Gaslight" if you haven't seen it. It's an old black & white, good movie and somewhat more sinister, if I recall correctly.

I know of two whiplash type injuries that I have had-both from falls. The last one being within a year of my developing BEB when I missed a step on our stairs.
Don't have a clue about delivery problems. Mom never remembered as they used to "twilight" everybody back then.

I had a serious whiplash from a car accident 16 years ago. I was in physical therapy for 2 years my neck was so damaged (and still is). My mom had an easy delivery with me.

I have no idea about my delivery, but I was `dropped on my head' as a baby, supposedly, by my sister (as she tells it) who was 10 year's older, perhaps I just slipped on the floor! I really don't know how serious that was.

I also did a flip over the handle bars of my bike a year before beb - I was wearing a helmet and thought I was just bruised on the body. I didn't go to a doctor then. I also had a huge amount of stress for 2 year's prior to being diagnosed.

I had a head trauma at about age 5 - fell backwards onto a concrete curb, took about a dozen stitches. Also a severe whiplash, but that was AFTER the BEB started.

But that all explains why I am crazy, not why I blink! :-)

I also had a very difficult birth. I was a "breech" baby and the doctor who delivered me didn't know anything about this (back in those days, they didn't) Anyways, he shoved me back up inside my mom and turned me around. Needless to say, it about killed both my mom and I. I was in an incubator for awhile. I had problems growning up. The doctors thought I had a brain injury. I could not walk by myself until I was three. I seemed to come out of everything just fine though, except to this day, I don't have really good balance. Then at age 21, I was in my bad car accident and suffered severe trauma to the head. I recovered from that without any apparent problems, but then later at age 50, I started showing symptions of beb/meige. At age 35, I had an MRI and doctor said it showed no sign of a brain injury. It's all very curious. My doctor today can't give me an answer to what happened to me. I really wish I could know for sure.
