Webmaster - chat room privacy

Hello Bob - as I understand from your post, this new chat room is completely unregulated - meaning anybody at all can enter it. I agree it is a lot of money to have to pay to have a password/login chat room and the current usage certainly doesn't warrant that at this time.

I think we all must be aware that strangers could enter, perhaps even using a name they found on the BB, and don't mention anything we wouldn't mind the whole world knowing.

We exchange some pretty personal stuff at times so I think we must take care that we know to whom we are talking particularly if someone signs in as Guest.

You are right, Lyn, users of both the chat room and the bulletin board should not say/post anything that they would not want known to the world. In some respects, one should be more careful on the bulletin board than in the chat room as posts remain indefinitely whereas the chat room flushes after the last person leaves. Registration and login do not provide confidentiality. Anyone can read the posts without logging in and anyone can register. Registration, validation and logging in simply allow the moderators to ban and, if necessary, track down troublemakers.

Thanks, Bob - yes,it is as well to remind ourselves of this from time to time. We tend to feel so at home on the BB.

So the chat room conversations are NOT preserved for posterity - just as well !

Anyway, this new chat room is very easy to use and much easier on the eyes. Let us hope more people take advantage of it as it is a fun way to have immediate contact with our friends on the BB.

An individual who is in the chat room can save the chat of the current session before he/she logs out by clicking on the diskette icon.

Maybe I'm not 'getting" this. What exactly is it that we should be afraid of saying?
Also who would want to register on either of these things if they didn't have beb or someone they cared about had it? Someone reading some of the awful things we go through i think would not only be scared to death but be a little more empathetic.

For most of us who are out of the closet, it isn't a problem. However, ADA notwithstanding, employers have been known to snoop around the Internet to look for possible problems with potential employees. On the Dystonia BB, there was a case of an estranged spouse using the other spouse's postings in a child custody case.
