Yesterday's Doctors Visit

Hi Everyone,
I saw Dr. Tarsey yesterday, a motion disorder specialist at Beth Isreal Hosp in Boston. He confirmed that I have Blepharospasm w/ apraxia. I had already set my mind on the fact that I had it, so the news really didn't startle me. I start Botox in April.
This may sound a little strange, but I'm actually feeling like today is the first day of the rest of my life. By making it virtually impossible for me to continue working as a customer service rep., or holding down a traditional 9-5 job, may be I can pursue my art career with more focus? Or maybe I can volunteer at the school that is only a block away (walking distance)and work with kids? It's weird but a whole new set of options just opened up to me. As they say "one doors closes and another one opens".
I have to brag about how wonderful my husband was yesterday. When I asked him what he thought about the diagnosis, he said, "When the pitcher throws you a curve, you adjust and hit to right feild." (Mike and I are big Red Sox fans.) His support has been incredible.
I know I'll have some bad days, and frustrations etc. And I know I'll get mad and sad and throw myself some pity parties, but in the long run I'll be fine.

This is my new mantra:
So here's to blinking eyes,
and scrunchy faces,
To new adventures
and new places.
I have blephro,
it doesn't have me.
My eyes now close,
but the better I see.

Denise

Demise, you are definitely on the road to success with that attitude! It's an inspiration to all of us. Of course there will be down times, but we'll be here to bolster your spirits, as we each need the others to do for us from time to time.

Glad your husband is so supporting. Good luck to the Red Sox.
