Sorry to hear that your driving is curtailed -- at least you have the common sense to stop before you hurt somebody. Have you looked into carpooling? Some communities have phone numbers you can call to line up car pools. They are designed to reduce traffic in the big cities, but work best for people like yourself who can't drive for whatever reason. I used to be involved in a van pool that was supported by my company.It pains me to hear of people for whom BOTOX doesn't work. I think it may be because of inexperience of the Dr., but since I don't know who yours is I shouldn't even bring it up. What does youe Dr. say about the failure to work? --- Lynn

All sorts of things can affect whether or not BOTOX works-bad batch, stress, need for different injection sites, etc. And while I agree with Lynn that some doctors lack experience, that is NOT the case with Dr. Merritt. He was my third doctor and his injections worked the best for MY symptoms but maybe not for someone elses. I know someone who uses my old doctor and she gets injections once every 6 months and functions pretty well. His injections were ineffective for me and gave me horrible side effects. As we see here over and over again, everyone is different - symptoms vary, response levels vary, area affected by dystonia vary (some only have beb, others, like myself have full cranial dystonia which is harder to treat.) Some people just don't respond to BOTOX as well as others. I don't respond well (it lasts about 4 weeks for me) and I still struggle even on good days but it does temporarily improve my quality of life and for this I am thankful. For me I had to take a step back and realize that better does not mean perfect-my life as I once knew it is over and I have to accept that and quit expecting BOTOX to cure me. I spoke this afternoon with the BOTOX rep from the Dallas area. She will be attending my support group meeting later this month. She told me that she discovered, through a round about way, that it appears that it requires more BOTOX the younger you are. While she works strictly on the theraputic side of BOTOX and has no involvement cosmetically, she said a dermatologist told her that it takes more BOTOX to get rid of the wrinkles in younger women than the older women because their muscles are stronger. I find this interesting since I am only 33.Keep your chin up and don't give up. If Dr. Merritt isn't right for you keep searching until you find someone who is. Several people at our last meeting use Dr. Itani-maybe give him a try. I hope to see you at the next meeting-flyers went out yesterday.

I have success with Botox. But 6 months ago nothing happened. I got the batch number from Artane. Heard they were giving free shots to people whose shots didn't work the first 2 weeks but my doctor wouldn't because he was afraid I'd, build up an immunity to Botox. He only gives them every 3 months. This time my Doctor more or less admitted that sometimes the botox is ineffective. He said I hope you get a good batch this time or something to that affect.
