Re: Question about Klonopin
Hi Shanasy, I take Klonopin .25mg, two to three times a day. Usually only twice. It does seem to help relax the squeezing around my eyes. That dosage seems to work fine for me and I can definitely tell if I don't take it. It doesn't do anything really for my apraxia problem so I still have difficulty getting my eyes open but at least it helps relieve the squeezing and pulling of the muscles around the eyes. When I have attempted higher doses of the Klonopin, short term memory problems are quite apparent. The increased dosage didn't relieve the symptoms that much more, if any more and certainly wasn't worth the trade-off. No other side-effects for me that I've noticed and I've taken that dosage for well over a year now.I'm glad that you asked, Shanasy. We miss seeing you around but we understand. Pop in when you can. Good luck with the Klonopin. It is in a different category of drugs than the Artane, which is an anticholinergic. Results will be a little different. Another drug to consider (especially since the Artane helped you) might be Parsitan (obtained in Canada-not made in the US). Mindy had good luck with it. Just something else to tuck away to consider in the future. Shirley in Arkansas getting over the flu-bug
Re: Question about Klonopin
I take .5mg per day, spread over 4 doses. It makes me drowsy in higher doses but 1/4 tablet every 4-5 hours does seem to help me. I also just started Parsitan, obtained from Canada. Right now I take 1/2 tablet with breakfast and before bed.

Re: Question about Klonopin
Kelly, How do you obtain the Parsitan from Canada? Do you order on the internet. Do you have to have a physicians OK? If you don't want to post your answer on this BB, e-mail and tell me how you get it.Thanks, Joyce in NC - just curious
Re: Question about Klonopin
My neurologist faxes the prescription to the pharmacy and they mail it to me. I got the name and phone number from Mindy and called and set up an account so they could bill my credit card. If you would like the info, let me know and I'll email it to you.

Re: Question about Klonopin
Kelly, Please e-mail me the information then I will see what my GP thinks.Joyce in NC - I am going to my 5 yr old granddaughter's birthday at 5:30. Pizza and fun seeing them open gifts. Her birthday is not until the 13th but this was a better time for her friends to come. They will bowl from 4:30 to 5:30 but not me. I can play ball and swim but bowling intimidates me. Re: Question about Klonopin
My doc ordered it 1 in morning and 1 at night(1/2mg per tab). She said my body would adjust. I just felt too tired and spaced out and it helped for about 4 to 6 hours. I started halfing the tab. It is scored and breaks easily and I felt no side effects and it lasted 3 to 5 hours. I repeat it when it starts wearing off and take 3 to 5 of the 1/4mg dose and it really works well for me. My doc says to do what ever works and that taking it up to 5 or 6 times a day at that dose is not too much. I haven't had Botox in 5 months. If I get busy and forget to take it in 4-5 hours or haven't had my afternoon time out my eyes get worse and it takes resting with my eyes covered to get them to settle down. I also take Celebrex morning and night for Fibromyalgia and am on a herbal program.
Re: Question about Klonopin
Hi Shanasy-I've been taking Klonopin (generic, clonazepam) for probably 8-10 yrs., .5 mg. 3X a day. I don't really know if it helps with the spasms as such, but it definitely helps with anxiety, which I feel is/was a strong contribution to my getting BEB. I do have more short-term memory loss than I would like, but I blame it on having to much in my brain to remember everything! and age....Mary
Re: Question about Klonopin
I took Artane, but could not take a very high dose because of side effects, so lowered the dose (with Dr approval), and added clonazepam, starting with 1/4 tablet, then working up to a half and finally a whole tablet. Eventually took some at night and some spread out during the day. To counteract the drowsiness, I consumed small amounts of caffeine in tea, Coke, Mountain Dew, etc. whenever drownsiness would have interefered with reading, driving, etc.
My doctors said that if one med alone doesn't do the job, sometimes a combination of them can be helpful.

Ruth, I am interested to know what the negative side effects from Artane for you that you had to reduce the dosage. Are you still taking some Artane and Clonazepam? Appreciate your help about Artane.

Re: Artane side effects?/Shanasy
Shanasy, It was just recommended to me that Artane was such a good med for BEB. I have not taken it, and would like to know what side effects you had from Artane that make you want to stop taking it. Thanks for any help here.

Re: Artane side effects?/Shanasy
Since I gave up on botox my dr recommended Artane. She has one onther patient that does well enough on Artane that she doens't need botox. At first, Artane was like a miracle for me. It worked soooo well - for maybe a few months I think. I took 4mg once a day (I'm only about 90 lbs.). It seemed to last most of the day and since I hate drugs I just dealt with it for the rest of the day. The side effects I had initially was dry mouth (not too bad), blurred vision (annoyinging but I could still read most things) and terrible forgetfulness (I was constantly forgetting the subject in the middle of a conversation whether it waas me talking or someone else) (the worst - yet still worth it). Then, strangely enough, it quit being so effective for my spasms and was giving me this really strange feeling like I was going to burp but nothing happened and this was a non-stop feeling and VERY, VERY uncomfortable. Plus I was just feeling "not right" inside – a strange feeling I can't describe. I have no idea what was responsible for the change. I'm trying klonopin today for the first time and hope it works as well as the Artane did originally. Good luck and let me know how you do on the artane!

Re: Artane side effects?/Shanasy
Thanks Shanasy for the description of the Artane side effects you experienced. I can see why you need to go to another med! I have been on Klonopin for about a year, gradually increasing dosage to 4 or 5 times a day for a total of 1 to 1.5 mg per day. This a help with my meige problems especially. If I miss a dose it I know it, and have really no side effects other than drowsiness at times. Lower doses did not help very well. As to the Artane, I know a fellow blephro on it, and he is doing good, but he just is a new blephro and new on Artane. I am sure that I recall others having negative side effects from Artane, but I couldn't remember for sure. Many thanks for responding!
Tim in PA hoping you have better times and can post more often. Thanks also for the Aspartame info. I had just run across similar info.
Re: Question about Klonopin
Three times a day I take .5 mg of clonazapam. It helps a lot with spasms & I can tell when it's due. At first it made me quite drowsy but no longer. I don't seem to have any side affects. Probably I'm not as sharp as I should be however.

Re: Question about Klonopin
Shanasy, when I first was diagnosed with BEB, I was prescribed Artane but could not handle it. I felt real funny inside and I just did not like it. After a couple of other experiments, I tried Neurontin which seemed to help and then Klonopin which made a big difference. I notice that the Klonopin helps my Meige quite a bit as I know when the dosage wears off. My chin will just clamp down against my neck. I take .5mg 3 times a day. I do have occasional short term memory loss but my wife says I always had that. I also get extremely tired about two hours after taking it. Part of my problem is that sometimes I take it on an empty stomach which never is good with most medications. Anyway, it certainly works better than the Artane did...AlanP.S. I have been taking both for several years now.
Re: Question about Klonopin
I take 1 mg. Klonopin 4 times a day. After ther first 5 weeks on it I became depressed (one of the side effects) so I added Zoloft. I noticed a lot of people on Klonopin take Zoloft. It worked for me. Ann Doyle
Re: Question about Klonopin
I take Zoloft, too -- one a day, with the .5mg. of clonazepam 3X a day.
