Re: do I need more Botox
Cindy,
You and your doctor are the ones who should make this decision. If you feel you need more, tell him. He should be able to inject more without getting in the center of your eyebrow, which is what usually causes ptosis. I can raise my eyebrows. My test is whether I can close one eye at a time. If not, the BOTOX is working. If I can, it is starting to wear off, or I didn't get enough. We all need to be treated individually, so you'll need to figure out what works for you.

Re: do I need more Botox
Hey!?! Are you talking about your eyeLID or eyeBROW? You can't get ptosis, AFAIK, from injections in the brow, but you can from shots in the lid. At any rate, with a well-balanced dose of Botox, you should be able to move either of them, at least a little bit. It's really too soon to tell -- it may take 1-4 weeks to get the full effect -- and at any rate I would be skeptical of a Dr. who will re-inject after only a month, because your risk of building immunity from too frequent injections is very high. Be a bit more patient. --- Lynn
Re: do I need more Botox
Lynn,
I've gotten ptosis from injections above my eyebrow. Maybe the stuff migrates - don't know. Just my experience. I also have had injections a month apart - only once. I think an occasional booster would not be a problem. I wouldn't do it on a regular basis though.

Re: do I need more Botox
Lynn, the recent information that the BEBRF has been putting out and Allergan for that matter suggests that there is very little chance of people building up antibodies to BOTOX at the dosage that people with BEB take. Since BOTOX was reformulated some years back this has ceased to be a problem. Doctors have even stopped checking for antibody formation as they just rarely ever saw it.
There is more concern with this with people with other forms of dystonia that take much higher doses of BOTOX and also with Myobloc as it does contain a much greater protein load.
I'll see if I can't find some written info on it.Shirley in Arkansas Well, the BOTOX literature has changed since the last time that I went to the site and they are a little more vague about what they have to say about antibody formation and they are now saying that more studies need to be done in this area.
I copied the below from the www.botox.com site: The critical factors for neutralizing antibody formation have not been well characterized. The results from some studies suggest that BOTOX® injections at more frequent intervals or at higher doses may lead to greater incidence of antibody formation. The potential for antibody formation may be minimized by injecting with the lowest effective dose given at the longest feasible intervals between injections.

Re: do I need more Botox
I had to have a booster too. I got my injections 2 weeks before I was going to be induced with Cory (now 4) so that I would be at my best to care for a newborn and a 2 year old. However, the stress of delivery sent that BOTOX out the window for good so he did give me a booster and it helped make a hard situation bearable. As long as you don't make it a regular thing, I don't see any harm. My past experience with ptosis was from it being injected into the eyelid, not the brow. I receive injections every time in between my eyebrows since that is a big problem spot for me.

Re: do I need more Botox
Hi Cindy, Some doctors will give more botox within a week or two of the last injections if you feel that more is needed. You and the doctor have probably already made your decision by now, anyway.
Sometimes it takes my injections 2 to 3 weeks before they are fully effective so you may still see more positive benefits as time goes on even if you don't get an additional booster this time. You can get a ptosis (or droopy lid-half mast) from injections in the middle of each eyebrow. Injections are typically (or sometimes) given above the brow at either or both ends pointed away from the midline of each brow. The levator muscle runs along the midline of the upper lid and if botox is injected into this area or drifts into this area, a ptosis can result making it difficult or impossible to raise the upper lid for a time. Hope things go well this time. Please let us know. Shirley in Arkansas where it is raining, raining, raining.
