Hi everybody! It's been a long time since I've been here. I hope all are doing well.

Since some of us blephros get migraines. Does anybody know anything about shots you have to give yourself for them?

Patti, I have had migraines for approx 7 years. I think my migraines were a prelude to the BEB. I have never injected myself with the shots but I understand they are self injecting. Not sure what that means but I think you just put it on your body somewhere and just push the plunger and it does the rest. It's not like you have to stick your self.

The doctor injected me with Imitrex and at first I thought my head was coming off, in fact it hurt worse - but then the pain went away fast. I felt so good afterwards I went home and washed my car. I have also used the nose sprays and again it makes my headache worse, than it just eases off. For me the injections worked better and also I had a doctor around in case anything went wrong.

Joyce in NC where the weather is really nice today but they are calling for rain tomorrow. I hope it doesn't rain too much because my family is getting together after church to eat lunch and we were planning to eat in our son's enclosed garage. We want to keep the door open so we will have to just wait and see.

HAVE A HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE - HE IS RISEN!!

Thank you joyce.

So, it's Imitrex that's injected?

Did you feel like your head was coming off because of the medicine or the injection?

I'm going to look up Imitrex to see what side effects there are if any.

Given in the right spot, BOTOX will sometimes help with migraines. I mentioned headaches to my neuro-op and he always gives me injections in an extra spot or two to keep them away.

Thank you Virginia.

I thought I had heard something about botox and migraines. I assume the shots are given around the same area where we receive our botox?

Shannasy, How are you. I might take you up on e-mailing you for more info. Thank you.

No I don't believe that they are given in the same area (darn!!!!!!) My girlfriend got them for her really bad migraines and her shots were given in temple and high forehead (I think) area - no where close to the eyes. she never was really sure if they helped or not so she didn't go back.

Your welcome Virginia!

(I suffered horrendous migraines from age 24 to about 41. Then they went away (90% less severity that is!) and the same year I got blepharospasm. Interesting, huh!

I used to have migraines freguently but I also believe that BOTOX helps with this. I do get BOTOX in my temple area and forehead for my BEB. I'm not sure exactly where would be the best spot to get them for migraines but I do know that my migraines are much less frequent now than before BOTOX. One of the pleasant side-effects. :-)

I've never tried Imitrex.

Yes I've had experience in giving myself shots. They are worth it, however I recommend you have a friend or relative do it for you, unless you have high pain tolerance. I gave myself imitrex shots several times. The technique is VERY simple. The needle only goes under the skin. I shot myself in the upper leg. It hurt like heck!!! You have to hold the needle in until the drug is completely injected. The drug is very painful going in but it only lasts 5 seconds (kinda like botox shots). The shots would relieve a "10" headache in 5-15 minutes! Definately worth it! The pills usually took about 45 minutes to work and they worked about 60% of the time. The shots, for me, worked 100% of the time. Since they were so painful, I taught my next door neighbor (friend) to give them to me in the arm and that worked alot better.

Don't take imitrex if you have ANY potential heart problems!!

Email me if you have any further questions about it. I don't read the BB too often.
