Re: Botox Parties
Judy, Lyn has always been very helpful, supportive and thoughtful. Is she having trouble posting directly on this bb?
Re: Botox Parties
Yes, Lyn is having posting problems at the moment.JB
Re: Botox Parties
I am really tired tonight, but I had to let you all know that my husband and I have just returned from a 225 mile trip (one way) and back again from a BOTOX PARTY!!!! I even dressed up for the occasion in my BOTOXEDO!!!!!! ONLY KIDDING!!!! of course, I actually went for my 3-month visit to my neuro-ophthalmologist where I received 100 units of BOTOX (50 units - 8 injections around each eye and yes, one is in the eyelid with no drooping) AND everyone there was definitely not in a "partying" mood AND I did wear my red "Keep our eyes open" t-shirt!!!!
I am not more beautiful!!! nor do I look younger!!!! but in a few days my eyes will be open again for awhile!!
ON April 3 in the local city newspaper there was an article "FDA may smooth way for BOTOX" - I immediately wrote a letter to the editor explaining my condition and that we who suffer with this need to have our story told AND THEY NEVER EVEN PRINTED MY LETTER! Today, there was the BIG NEWS article "Poison OK'd to smooth frown lines" - It started with "GOT WRINKLES? GET BOTOX! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I can't wait 'til tomorrow when I get on the phone and ask them "what happened to my letter?" My doctor said to encourage everyone to keep trying to get our voices heard.
For the life of me, I can not understand why anyone would go through the discomfort of these injections unless they really needed them.
Nancy /NE.PA where it is really really warm and am really tired from all that "partying"!!! Keep trying and Keep smiling!
Re: Botox Parties
Wonderful, Nancy! I love your sense of humor and am so glad you had such a wonderful time at the party. Maybe we should all start really gussying up and putting on the ritz when we go to our doctors. I go tomorrow morning for my wrinkle shots, but had just planned to go in my usual jeans and sweatshirt ... I go for comfort when I have to suffer!Sally in North Idaho where it was 39 degrees today, had snowflakes-raindrops-wind. I had to drive 50 miles each way to my endocrinologist today, then the neurologist tomorrow, then my mother to eye clinic on Thursday. Driving is so tiring, and it used to be my recreation.
Re: Botox Parties
Maybe they could provide the champagne.
Re: Botox Parties
They provide champagne ... good idea. That would be better than EMLA cream! We could just bubble our way out of the treatment room.Sally in North Idaho, who doesn't care much for champagne, but ....
Re: Botox Parties/Sally
It's been so long since I've had it, what does it taste like again??
Re: Botox Parties/Sally
Good Morning, Sally...
It's me again, feeling completely rested from my day of Botox "partying" on Tuesday. I hope by now, your have had your injections and did not have too much discomfort - my doctor is great and experienced in giving them, but they did seem to hurt more this time.
I found this bit of info this morning - thought everyone might be interested in... while it was about Botox for wrinkle removing, it might concern us as well. "Less Painful Botox Injections - Adding Preservative to Formula Dulls Sting of Shots" - the website is www.my.webmd.com/content/article/1689.52711. I especially got a "kick"
out of the last sentence "minimizing patient pain is an important physician resposibilty. ELECTIVE procedures such as Botox injections...
should be particularly devoid of unnecessary suffering."Nancy/NE.PA where it has been really too warm for only mid April.
Re: Botox with preservatives
I'd like to know a little more about the preservative that they are using. Allergan has always said that the toxin is very fragile and is very easily destroyed. This might work for cosmetic usage where only minimal amounts of BOTOX are injected but I have concerns for us that are using it for medical reasons.
In the past, BOTOX mixed with saline with a preservative in it has been more painful for patients so I am wondering what preservative is being used. I also am concerned about reactions to preservatives. I know that I have allergic reactions to some that are in eye drops. It actually sounds like a private cosmetic physicians group did their own study on some 35 cosmetic patients and mixed things themselves. I think that it is a good start but I'd like to see a little better controlled study done and what the actual chemical changes are when the BOTOX is mixed with the preservative that they are using. Allergan didn't put a preservative in it originally for a reason. I wonder what they have to say about this report?
Just my two cents worth. I posted the link again and hopefully it can just be clicked on to take you to the article. Shirley in Arkansas http://my.webmd.com/content/article/1689.52711 --modified by Shirley-Arkansas-USA at Thu, Apr 18, 2002, 11:02:38
Re: Botox with preservatives/Shirley
I absolutely agree!! and thanks for posting a link...I don't know how to do that yet.Nancy/NE.PA
Re: Botox with preservatives
Thank you for posting the information. I've sent an email off to Allergan with the link included so that they can read it. I'm sure that I'll get a response from them. I'll let you know what they have to say.
You can post a link by highlighting it, then right click on it and a menu should appear-click on "copy". Go into your message body and right click in the message body and then click on "paste" from the menu. I was so proud when I learned how to "copy and paste". My computer nerd sons gave me a hard time until I finally learned to do it. Shirley in Arkansas
Re: Botox with preservatives/Shirley
I'm glad you caught that preservative aspect that we had some discussions on a long time ago , it seems. i printed you instructions so that maybe one days I can do it too.
Re: Botox Parties/Sally
Glad to see some comments on the preservative in Botox. When I got my last shots three weeks ago, they hardly hurt. My doctor told me he has been experimenting with preservatives in the Saline. But I did not know if he meant with it added or removed. I do know that they did not sting like usual and it was great. They are doing fine too.
Re: Botox Parties/Sally
I've have had 2 set of injection now and neither of these hurt in the slightest. Not being injected or afterwards. I also only have minimal bruising. Perhaps this is the reason why haven't since I did expect some pain.
Re: Botox Parties
Hi EverybodyWill try again to post. Four times lately I have been returned to the main page while in the middle of writing my post. Annoying to say the least so I asked Judy to post for me. The amazing news is that I have had an email reply from the Director of News at my local Channel 7. He said he is considering a story on the medical uses of Botox, as I suggested and asked if I would be prepared to be interviewed by a reporter and to email my phone number. So yesterday I sent my phone number and also suggested that my ophthalmologist perhaps could be interviewed for a medical overview. At least it is a positive move as i didn't really expect a reply. Will keep you posted if anything comes of it. Lyn - in Autumn in Western Australia where we have just had the wettest April day for over 100 years.
Re: Botox Interview
Way to go, Lyn!June in Toronto
Re: Botox Parties
I'm glad that you are able to post again, Lyn. Hope that you hear something from the media. Be sure and let us know.Shirley in Arkansas who wishes that she was headed for Autumn. Not looking forward to the heat and humidity that will be here very soon.
Re: Botox Parties/Shirley
Re: Botox Parties/Lyn
Great work, Lyn. I've missed you on the bb. Maybe you could keep after this guy as there is such a media push on the wrinkle-removing aspects of Botox, you would think MOST people would be curious or interested about the medical uses also.
