UK specialists

Does anyone out there know of any sympathetic specialists in the UK?I am struggling with being told that my slowly worsening eyelid control is impossible, and must be hysterical! My friends and family don't think so. Has any one else had this problem?

Claire:

Most of us have heard that same song many times over.

Contact the BEBRF Foundation office and ask for a referral in the UK. Click on the Blepharospasm Main Pages for the address.

Hang in there.

How awful! I have been very fortunate indeed to have been referred to an sympathetic Opthalmologist called Dr I. F. Whyte in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. He knew immediately what condition I had as he ahd seen it many times in Moorfields Hospital..(.not sure where that is.)
Whereabouts are you in the U.K, Claire?

When I was in the U.K. in 1995 (when I diagnosed my beb condition from a write-up in The Woman's Own Magazine) there was The Dystonia Society office in London (I went to it for paperwork on the subject). I'm sure, like BEBRF, they would have a list of doctors you could obtain. Their address at that time was: The Dystonia Society, Weddel House, 13-14 West Smithfield, London EC1A 9JJ. Their (old) telephone number was 0171-329 0797. Perhaps you could try contacting them, they were very kind to me, a visitor from Canada.

Best wishes

June in Toronto(beb/meige) who was born in London

I have just today received my membership information from the Dystonia society in london. The address 46/47 Britton street,
London EC1M 5UJ tel 020 7490 5671 and fax 020 7490 5672

My letter said there was a list of contacts enclosed within the envelope, but unfortunatley there wasn't so I can't give you anyone else's number in your area. But the website is
www.dystonia.org.uk
Let me know how you get on Claire.
And June, I was born in London too. We do have a lot in common, don't we?

What part of London did you come from, Pippa? I was from north London - Edmonton - just next to the Tottenham Hotspurs! I still have Aunts and cousins there, but my sister now lives 10 months of the year in Spain and her family live in Bath. Best wishes

True born Cockney I am, June! I was born within the sound of the Bow Bells in Paddington. However I was only there for 6 weeks before being brought up to Scotland....

They got you `out of there' pretty quickly didn't they, Pippa? Out of the hustle and bustle of London (and maybe smog) to cleaner air in Scotland.

June in Toronto who listened to the Naked Chef today on tv - he's from London and has a great accent (I guess I used to have the same one!)
