Dry lips doesn't sound so difficult to cure but I've tried so many things. I grimace or clasp my lips shut to keep them still and I find I have a terrible case of dry sore lips. This happens daily. Any suggestions? Do any of you Meiges find that the botox causes some loss of the ability to smile or move your lips as much as before? Just full of questions, aren't I. |

I get dry lips [and mouth, throat, eyes, hair, everything is dry]. Have you tried Vaseline on your lips? My top lip went a bit stiff on one side with Botox, it wore off though. I looked a bit odd trying to smile.

Hi Dorthy...Although I have Meige, and I do the same things that you do, I find that my dry lips come more from moistening them with my tongue than from the movement and the clasping of the lips. So, during the winter I try to avoid licking my lips as much as possible. But if yours is coming from the clasping because the Meige impulses are so strong, how about applying some vaseline just before bedtime. If you're like me, the Meige symptoms discontinue while I sleep, and the vaseline gives the lips a chance to re-moisturize themselves at least while you're sleeping. It doesn't actually stop the dry lips from happening...but does help me to ease the nasty feeling a little bit.
Yes...Botox does strange things, sometimes. It could definitely take away your smile if it's injected in the wrong place, but I find that it could just as well "migrate" by itself to places that affect the smile. My smile has not been the same since I've been getting Botox. One time a year or so ago, I lost my smile on one side completely after my shots. But I can't do without the Botox because of my BEB, so I guess I just need to to "grin" and bear it, even though the "grin" is not as I'd like it to be.
One thing I notice about the Botox (and I hate), is that I can't move my lips in quite the same way anymore--when I chew, when I talk, or when I sing. I feel like the muscles in my mouth & lips are weak, or numb, or tired, or something (?). I've considered buying one of those mouth exercisers I see in catalogs, hoping it would help.
Feel better, Dorthy...and do keep on asking questions, because even if I don't have any answers, I love hearing what everyone else has to say.
Hugs....Rita from New Jersey

Hi Rita,
Are you getting BOTOX for your Meige (lower facial movements) or just for your eye spasms?
The sites for your injections could possibly be changed a bit to get rid of the smiling/mouth problems. Sometimes injections are given on either side of the nose and these can effect the mouth. They can be moved up a bit higher or a lower dose given in that area or those injections can be given with the needle pointed upwards instead of down. Any of these changes might help. Also injections given for your lower lids can cause upper lip problems if they are given in the cheek area. These can be moved up closer to the eye itself or a lower dose given. Just some suggestions. I hate it when my mouth doesn't work right. :-)Shirley in Arkansas

I like to use good old Bonnie Bell Lip Gloss for dry lips. It comes in different flavors (I like Dr.Pepper flavored ;-)) and is quite inexpensive. I use it at night and during the day especially in the winter time.Shirley in Arkansas

Dorothy - Try this. Poke a hole in a Vitamin E capsule (any potency) and squeeze the liquid into a teaspoon or so of Vaseline, and mix it well. Workds for me! Mary

I don't have meige, but I have had the squint smile and finding that the cup misses my mouth etc! I asked if I could have injections only above the eyes and I must say i have found a big improvement in my smile etc..it is back to normal really, and although my eyes still flutter or close marginally harder than with the injection also below the lids, I actually prefer to be able to smile properly.
