I just posted a response with this subject to Ann Doyle, because she asked this very interesting question and it didn't show up under her post unless you open her post. It says (MORE) beside her subject and name. I've never seen that happen before and don't particularly like that you can't see my post under hers. Wonder why? We've had longer threads before?

Delaine, I think what happened was that you changed the "topic heading" from the "Albium" to "What does it mean to be nonfunctional to you?"

I am 66 now and so older means "wiser". (I had to really look for her post that contained that phrase.)

To me to be nonfunctional is: Not being able to live a normal life - to have to have a fight/battle/strugle all day long to open my eyes, to have headaches that put you to bed just so the eyelid spasms will rest. To have to depend on others for everything that you do. To hang on to my husband or whoever happens to be taking me somewhere. Not to be able to enjoy the sites around me, to jump at loud sounds because you can't tell where they are coming from, especially if you are riding in a car.

I am nonfunctable but I still have to function just so life will seem normal to be. Does that make sense? I guess that means, never give up, keep on trying, don't be disappointed if everyone is not willing to change in order to accomadate (sp?) you. I have to slow down, not because I want to but because I have to.

Joyce in NC who went to the Bamboo Gardens (Chinese) instead of Olive Gardens to eat. Must be losing my hearing along with my eyesight.

it means spending all or at least part of the day trying to get your spasms under control and then the next day you have to rest from the exhaustion of doing this. Now if this pattern continues for many days because of whatever, this entire period is just called surviving and you are nonfunctional!
