June, What are those patches actually for? You mention pain, but what is in them? Would there be anything harmful? Apparently all we want is the mentholfumes. Correct? Would Mentholatum do the same trick?Sally in Idaho where it's just muddy and blah.

I only know what was posted, Sally, from the Dystonia D-mail. I think (?) the poster was from the States, so I thought you and others living there would know. If anyone finds out what the pain patches are - are they available over the counter (I assume they are) consist us, perhaps they will lt us all know?Got your e-mail change of address, thanks and thanks for ALL those forwards - very special. Happy 2003. June in Toronto who had to have blood work done this morning and there's 25 cm of snow out there! More to come.

Hi June,I envy you your lovely snow. I'm getting tired of this March weather we are having. It's in the upper 40s, rains awhile, blows awhile, sun shines awhile ... no snow flakes, or only sleet. Sally in North Idaho who is thinking of moving east for winters.

Somehting has occurred to me aboutr these patches..I am going to experiment!...it could just be that the sensation produced by the patches gives some "proprioceptive" feedback..i.e. sends messages to the brain about where your eyelids..or other parts of body are...for e.g. some people with Dystonia walk better with a rucksack and headrest to press their bodies onto... i.e. your brain is getting just a little bit more info about what your lower lids are doing and this straightens some of the confused messages out..so your eyes would spasm less...I am going to try sticking a small corn plaster under each eye when my BOTOX is wearing off to see if this works at all..please don't laugh at me! Hope you understand what I am trying to say!
Much love,
Claire

Understand what you are saying, Claire - are those patches mentioned in the D-mail to be found across-the-counter in the U.S.? Good luck with the experiment - we look forward to knowing how it turned out. I find wearing my nightime eye blind comforting - I sometimes leave it on in the morning, placed higher on my forehead and find that comforting, so I know what you mean. June in Toronto who went out to have lunch with my son even though the snow was at least 25 cm - its mild and turning slushy!

Well last night I couldn't keep my eyes open while trying to companiably watch Harry Potter Movie with my lads. Couldn't be bothered to go upstairs to look for corn plasters..so i just lightly pressed inder my eyes with my fingers..they opened for a while...I guess it's what they call a geste antagoniste or sensory trick. I wonder if that's why the patches work! However it's a trick i hadn't tried before...and it worked for a while..so I'll add that new odd mannerism to my general repertoire!
Claire in macclesfield..where we have snow and I went tobogganing and screamed a lot cos I went toooooooo fast! (Still a kid at heart)
