I have blephoraspasm in the right side of my face and also have spasmodic dysphonia. I am receiving no treatment for facial spasms except for Darvocet for pain. |

Welcome to the BEB BB. What kind of doctor is treating you? Maybe you need to see a second doctor. BEB is often worse in one eye, but both eyes are involved. Meige also is on both sides of the face. Have you heard of Hemifacial spasms? That usually affects only one side of the face. Have you checked out the BEBRF web site found at the top of the page and read about all three disorders? You deserve more treatment than Darocet for pain and you deserve a proper diagnosis.

I was diagnosed and treated first for hemifacial spasm by a neurologist. I didn't want to take Botox for it since their is a surgical cure called Microvascular Decompression Surgery . I went steight for the surgery in Pittsburg where the best for that surgery is thought to be. I was spasm free for 2 days. The DR. said I should see a Movement Disorder Specialist. It is very hard to tell the difference with some people. My one side is so much worse than the other. Ann Doyle

There's another "cure" on the DMRF bb board. What luck! Two in one day.

Pam, usually Blepharospasm affects both sides of your face and not only one side. Typically if it is one side, it is Hemifacial Spasm which is treatable. I might consider getting another doctors opinion. The spasmotic dystonia could be meige which would go along with the BEB but again, every person I know of with BEB has it on both sides of the face. The spasms can be worse on one side but they are on both. As I always say however, I am no expert so I would seek another opinion from a doctor. You ay want to talk to the BEB foundation also...Alan
