pins and needles

I thought I would give an update about my situation. The pins and needles and severe pain in my buttox down both legs to the ankles has worsened. Whereas, it was happening a lot during the day at first, it now is almost always present---especially when I move in certain directions. There are times during the day that it is mild. I have been able to continue teaching and have not missed any days yet.

After having the EMG, blood tests, venous sonogram of lower body from the one doctor and then the MRI of the brain and more blood tests from the new doctor, nothing has shown up. The new doctor made an appt with a neurologist on March 11(the same day I get Botox from another doctor). I decided since I was in so much pain, I was going to try a chiropractor. Well, my husband came home one day and had made an appt for me with a chiro. I have seen this chiro. every day since last Friday and will go again tomorrow. He took 2 x-rays the first day and also got all y test results from the other tests on that same day. Yesterday, he told me that he thought that the x-rays were indicating lumbar stenosis(a narrowing of one of the lower vertebrae). He said it might be possible to stretch that section of vertebrae to relieve the pressure. He wants me to keep my appt with the neuro, but wants to(and has) give a try in stretching that area and strengthening other areas. He has contacted my primary care physician about getting another MRI, but of the lower back.

Anyway, this is where I am right now. Just hoping I don't have to have surgery.

Jeannie from Ohio

Hi Jeannie, it makes sense to try the stretching that the chiropractor has suggested - it just might help you. I've had (had) back problems for years and had major surgery at one point in time. I started yoga classes a year ago and hardly ever have any discomfort from my back now. If there's ever a suggested pain I stretch, stretch, and stretch, and its gone again. I do hope you get relief soon. God Bless.

Your symptoms are much like what my wife has been going through. An MRI of the lower back showed a herniated disc. She is in the process of a series of three epidurals. I hope this is not your problem, but have you had an MRI of the lower back? Best of luck!

Raymond and June, I just saw your posts since I haven't been on the BB since I last posted. I had the spinal MRI last Tuesday and it confirmed the diagnosis of lumbar spinal stenosis. I will see the chiropractor on Monday to discuss treatment options. I will also see my primary care doctor after I know some conservative options. I like the new primary care doctor, but isn't it strange that the chiropractor is the one who ordered the x-rays the first day I saw him and then at the end of the week he had set up for me to have the MRI? Actually, I'm glad it worked out like this, because I will get to choose what type of treatment I want to get. I searched the internet and it does state that moving around will not make it worse. It really does hurt, but as long as I know I'm not injuring myself when I get the pain and continue doing what I was doing, I'll keep doing it.

Thanks for the update, Jeannie. I hope it all works out well for you and you get some relief very soon. That chiropractor seems like a keeper.

I'm so glad you finally got an answer! Sounds like you have a pretty good chiropracter there.
