dry eyes - and still learning

Hi everyone,

Mike and I were talking last night about my BEB.

The neuro-opthamologist seems to think that dry eyes plays a large role in this. What he said was, if I have dry-mouth I have dry eyes. I do have dry mouth, made worse by dry winter heating and meds.

I am now using the Genteal gel at night and drops during the days. I am also noticing a difference in the feel of my eyes on the days I'm not so dedicated to my drops. They feel more irritated. Funny that you don't know you have lost something till it's returned. In this case lubercated eyes.

Moving on from that point, the eyes respond to the dryness by blinking,

am I correct in my thought process that the excessive strobe-light-type of blinking eventually short circuits the blink mechanism and it becomes over-responsive causing the tight eye closings?

Is this considered a "secondary" blepharospasm, as it is a sensory response that sets off the initial blinking?

Now this makes sense to me, but you know how sometimes when you are trying to figure yourself out, you can put a spin on things to satisfy your own needs. It's almost too simple.

Thanks again!

Denise

You have at least one researcher persuing that line of thinking. He spoke at one of the conferences I attended (I think in Kentucky). The link below gives some info on his research.

Virginia in AL

Virginia-Very interesting information on those links. It seems so great to have people doing serious research. Of course, they're all going in different directions right now, but at least they're looking! Thank you for posting the links.Mary
