Shirley, Sounds like a good place to start a new subject, thanks for the topic. My expectations when starting Botox were that it would make me normal (whatever that is) again. What I get are mixed results. I've received Botox shots every 3 months for the past 6 years. Positive results: The tight squeezing/clamping of both eyes at the sign of any triggering event is helped for approximately 2 months. 2. The Oromandibular (BEB & Oro. = Meige) and ST (Spasmodic Torticollis) is greatly helped. Gone are the little gremlins that wreck havoc on my jaws and neck. Not helped: 1. Light sensitivity.
What about the rest of you? Take care, Judy

Hi everyoneMy expectations - well, I didn't know what to expect as at the time over 13 years ago now, I had not done much research on the subject.
The results - I get good relief from spasms (about 95% better) for about 8 weeks then it starts wearing off. I need the injections again at 10-11 weeks. I sometimes have a small bruise if the doctor hits a blood vessel but he tries very hard not to. I used to have a slight ptosis (drooping of the eyelids) for a couple of weeks but I think the doctor has worked out the correct dose for me because this doesn't happen any more. I could not live without the injections.

Judy, my expectations for Botox was that it was going to be the miracle that I was looking for after going from Dr to Dr. for over a year trying to find out what was wrong with me. Boy was I wrong. Although I have been taking it faithfully for a little over 6 years now myself, it rarely helps me. I will say that it is probably a little more effective since I have had the Myectomies but it never lasts for more than a week or two. My metabolism seems to eat it up. I still plan on taking the injections and trying different amounts and inj. sites in hopes of some day finding the right combination. Who knows what the future holds but one should never stop trying....Alan

It only last me 5 weeks but that is better than your two weeks. I am so jealous who onlly need shots every 5 or 7 months. My doctor only will give shots every 3 months but I make my appointments for every 10 weeks for the past 3 years and he hasn't noticed. I'm afraid if I made them for every 8 weeks he would.
I've been looking forward to a full myectomy in my future by DR. Anderson. My husband could take me but we don't know what to do with the 4 dogsll He hates spening money and I will need cosmetic surgery or my eybrows will be in my eyes. He doesn't want to put his spoiled rotten dogs in a kennel. More Money. Four out the cosmetic surgery which Medicar and our supplement won't pay is 3,000 plus all the expense of the hotel and plane for two. I will really add up. Ann Doyle

Even though I'd seen a video of before and after botox injections for beb/meige (with good results) I didn't have a clue that some people didn't respond or that the degree of improvement was so variable, or that there were side effects (in my case quite miserable for about a month). I didn't get better results from the injections and medication for almost a year and finally had to leave my job and join the disabled - I was not a happy camper! That was all 8 years ago and I now get reasonable results from 90 units of botox every 3-5 months. I experience side effects and am much more confined to home during that time. The rest of the time I live a more `normal' life, can watch tv, drive short distances, do yoga and other exercises, keep our home life going, but can't read a book (darn it). I have to take eye rests and roll with the punches as much as possible as stress really affects my eyes. All in all I know I am much better off than a lot of people with beb/meige - I truly count my blessings, and as I am now 64 year's young I don't mind not working and taking more time to smell the roses.
