Awhile ago, I remember reading of at least one person who tapes their eyes open. Was it Ann Doyle? Were there others? I don't recall.

Anyway, if anyone reading this tapes their eyes open, can you explain it to me, please? Especially, how do you tape them enough to stay open, but still be able to blink? Can you tape them open without drying out the eyes? Is it mainly for apraxia, or can you make it work for spasms, too?

Tatia

I put in "taping eyes" in the archives of the bulletin board and came up with comments on taping open and closed. You mighy try thee.

Just be careful about taping them open long enough to cause dry eyes. It is not fun to have dry eyes! I never taped mine open, but have worry about them being closed at night.

Hi Tatia,

I have tried taping my eyes when the Botox is starting to wear off. For me, it is more to keep the skin above the eye back rather than the eyelids open.

The relief from the weight on my eyelid eases the spasms somewhat and makes it easier to "will" the eyes open.

Unfortunately it is highly unattractive!!

I used surgical tape bought from the pharmacy/chemist.

I haven't done it for a while as I now just use a baseball style cap, adjusted to a tight fit which sits low and does much the same job.

The blink is not inhibited as I don't tape to the eyelid itself. I imagine that if you did tape the eyelid it would be very uncomfortable and very drying.

Good Luck!

Kathy

I tried it once, just for ha-ha's. My husband used surgical tape and placed one end of it on my eyelids, just above my lashes, and the other end of it over top my eyebrows. This was when my eyes would be closed for most of the day (no Botox left), and I wanted to watch a TV show and couldn't pry my eyes open.

It did open my eyes to slits, which was enough to see, and my bottom lids closed up to meet my top lids as a blink reflex. I have never had dry eyes, so that was not a problem for me. The only thing that I didn't like was the spasming feeling with the tape. It was like someone was playing tug-of-war with my lids and nobody was winning. Good luck to you. Judie

There is a photo in our BEB albums under "non-surgical aids" that shows a pair of glasses that have been adapted for ptosis help with the eyelids - you might want to check it out.
