Using tear drops and heating pads w/botox injections.....

Below is a question I have for the BB of BEB and I hope you don't mind posting it for me.

Fourth round of botox (45 Units and 10 sites) given on June 27th, it was good for about 19 days, after that it started to wear off.
On July 16th, I had my first appointment with an eyelids specialist for assessment on my BEB progress. After checking my eyelids, he said I had a slight case of blepharitis and suggested that I use artificial teardrops and heat pad for my eyes.
Fifth round of botox (115 Units and 15 sites) given on August 22nd, it failed to kick in since then.
Reported to my Neuologist on Sept. 7th, I felt a slight improvement on the 5th day after Aug. 22nd, . I only had one good day on Sept. 1st and 4 fair days before that. It's been flat since then. My eyelids were weak most of the time and never felt wide open like I experienced in the past. Mostly I had to use my finger to left my left eyelid just to see where I am going. Lot of tensions on my face and neck as I try to open my eyes. Had to rest a lot to keep the stress down. Follow up report to my neuologist on Sept. 18th, Same problem since I last reported. Why, I wondered? Since Dr. Jain, eyelid spec., recommended tear drops and heat pad on eye area back in July 16th, it's been flat almost the whole time. I used Systane for eye drops. For heat, I used wrinked warm wash cloth over my eyes plus top it with aroma therapy pad heated by microwave and let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes. I believe the tear drops are ok to use but concerned about the heat part, does that interfere with botox effectiveness? I stopped using that and switch to cotton ball wipping with warm water for a few minutes in the last few days. No change yet. Any information or suggestions. Thanks.

Hello,
Welcome. This is from what I have heard from this board and hopefully others will chime in.
From what I understand is that botox is sensitive to heat and so for about a week after injections i don't use any heat or hot compresses. This allows the botox to work and kill off the nerves .

Hope this helps,Have a good day,

Norm

Hello,

I have used all types of drops and they all seem to be about the same for me. Systane is a good drop. I use the refresh drops for contact ones when I wear my contacts and at night I use genteal gel. The night time ointment gel must be too thick or as we have discussed before on petrolium based been a problem. But when I wake up my eyes just feel horrible in the mornings. But the gel feels really cool on the eyes.

I've always been told (by a neuro and 2 ophthalm) not to use heat after botox injections for about a week. I usually do use heated cloths on my eyelids to stop blepharitis from occurring (again and again - it works). The heat could move the botox around too much and too far. June in Toronto
