Could anyone tell me what dosage of benedryl they take? Do they just take it when required (when botox wearing off)or all the time.
Surgery and botox but still a lot of problems.
Does anyone who just has blepharospasm take medication, if so, what?
Advice would be appreciated

I take one or two 25 mg. capsules a day. This, along with 127 units, of Botox allows me to do what I need to do. This doesn't include driving, which I do only occasionally.

I believe 50mg is the adult standard dosage of "Benadryl" which is a brand name for diphenhydramine hydrachloride. This is a antihistamine and also used as a OTC sleep aid. I get Botox injections, have had surgery and use medication. I have a prescription for Lorazepam (Ativan) which I use sparingly and usually don't take at all for awhile after getting injections. This is an addictive medication and the last thing I want to do is feel addicted to anything! I also have experimented with "Benadryl" and just recently 200mg caffeine tablets. The reason that I tried the caffeine tablets is that I had read that several people were having good results with various stimulant-type meds and I saw these caffeine tablets at Wal-mart and thought it was worth a try. I think that I get some relief from "Benadryl" but the down side is that it can make you very drowsy. I wasn't sure about the caffeine tablets, but last week I was driving a distance and my eyes were starting to get bad (I had another driver with me just in case).....I took one of those tablets and I was able to keep driving! I'm thinking that it really worked, so that might be something to think about trying, although I don't want to take that on a regular basis either as caffeine is also addictive. I hope this is helpful for you. Sorry it's so long.

Thanks for that. As I said I have had surgery and of course have botox. I wondered about medication but have read that drugs don't really help people that just have eye spasms.
Here in Britain your Benedryl is sold as Nytol so people outside U.S. beware.
Thanks again

Hi,
I don't think that anyone can say that medication doesn't work for anyone that just has eye spasms. Everyone is different, and it is all a "try and see what works" kind of thing. You also have to weigh the benefits with the side-effects and decide what you can live with. With some things your body can eventually get used to them and the side-effects are tolerable, diminished, or just go away.
Best wishes.

When visiting the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville for a 2nd opinion, I mentioned to the doctor that tylenol sinus tablets seemed to help between botox injections. As per this info hel placed me on Artane which has been of some help.

Good luck
