I hope that you all are having a nice summer.
I received injections about three weeks ago, and my doctor just did the injections for blepharospasms, but did not inject as he normally does down both sides of the nose for my Meige's. I was doing so well, I guess that we both just forgot. A week later, I started with the bunny nose, and then spasms down into my upper lips, to the point that I would have problems drinking liquids and would choke, and was having a hard time speaking. My neck was even starting to pull to the side. I called my doctor, and went in to have the Botox injections on both sides of my nose, three on each side down to the top of the nostrils. All of the spasms stopped within a day. It doesn't make sense to me why spasms in the nose would spread to the lips and neck, but for those of you who do have Meige's, if your physician doesn't inject both sides of the nose, it might be worth a try...... Take care! |

Hi, I experience something similar myself. In addition to injections on the side of my nose, I get injections on both sides of my neck and along the jawline, because my meige symptoms run all along those areas. I still choke sometimes and have difficulty speaking, but it's way better than without the injections. Hope this helps. I hope that everyone is having a great summer!!! Claire from Canada |

Don't all those injections hurt ??? I only had 10 of them around both eyes (5 around each eye) and I thought I was going to die LOL They hurt like the devil and I read about you all getting many many more injections than I ever did like they are nothing. I must really be a major sissy :-) |

Sissy? Not really, apparently around 5% of patients have real trouble (pain) from the injections. Others somehow don't. Just luck I guess Cheers Peter Oh, and let me bore everyone silly by yet again suggesting people get the Neil Miller CD video from the BEBRF. In that he shows two methods for alleviating the pain of the shots. |

I couldn't find it listed in the online store, but the details were in the last newsletter or two I believe. In any case, email Mary Smith at the BEBRF office, bebrf@blepharospasm.org and ask her to send you a copy. Cheers Peter |

I'm positive that you are not a sissy!
I've had three different doctors inject me. The one who caused the most pain used a large needle deep into the muscles. The rational was that the more the muscle fibers are spread, the better the botox gets into where it needs to be. Each injection felt like a bee sting, even though I had used EMLA cream. The doctor that I go to now uses a very small needle, and injects just below the skin into the neuromuscular junction, which is where the botox works. I hardly feel his injections, and they work much better than the doctor who injected into the muscles. He also uses a lot less botox (48 instead of 100 mu). He doesn't want me to use EMLA cream, because he feels that it works on the same areas where he is putting the botox, and it might counteract its effectiveness. I did my own "case study" once using EMLA cream anyway, and I didn't notice any difference as well as how good the botox worked, but it also didn't seem to make a difference as far as feeling any pain, so I haven't used it since. I repeat - you are not a sissy! :o) |
