Donating blood--botox

Has anyone had any experience in donating blood while on Botox. I don't want to give blood and then receive a card that it could not be used. That is what happened to my husband after he had taken immunizations for foreign travel.

I know that he did not have Botox, but just wondering if tht would be a cause for rejecting as well. I was working at a blood donation site and asked, but did not get a clear answer from the workers.

I would not think that there would be any contraindication for donating blood while getting Botox injections. I probably wouldn't do it the same day....

Might be a good question to send off to the BEBRF so that they can forward it to one of the doctors and get a response for the newsletter.

Agree that it should be answered by a professional - asking anyone not familiar with medical Botox is likely to get an uninformed paranoid answer.

Peter

So who is going to send it to the BEBRF to get it answered?

Hi Bluebird.

I give blood in the UK. Here there must be a gap of at least a week between injections and donating; although here they prefer 2 weeks if you can.

They are also fussy about who has given the injections. It can't be a beautician (for wrinkles etc.), and must be an NHS practitioner.

Obviously the rules will differ in different places but I thought this would give you an idea.

Have agood weekend everyone - half-term here :)

I just got an email from Mary at the Foundation with Dr. Mark Hallett's response to the blood donation question while on Botox. I have pasted it below.

---Shirley: Here is Dr. Hallett's answer to your question.

" There should be no difficulty in donating blood while on botulinum toxin therapy. After an injection, there is a very transient small amount of toxin that does get into the blood, less than one hour. After that there is no toxin in the blood at all. "

Shirley, I have been giving blood before BEB (pre 1996) and regularly since. I have not had any problem with them rejecting my donation. I have asked as I did not know if they were just indescrete and did not let you know if it was rejected or not. Alan

P.S. Everything is still going great. Just got back from Vegas and all the bright lights did not bother me a bit.

Hi Alan,

So good to hear that you are still doing well following your Brow Pin procedure by Dr. Borodic!

Do us a favor and start a new thread and give us a thorough update with amount of symptom improvement and how much botox you get now, etc.

We'd also like to get updates from Klara and June (for Gary) and Judie, who have all had the same procedure done. Please include the date of your surgery so that we have a time frame to look at.

Thanks,

Shirley in New Mexico
