I did a brief search on the web and albumin seems to be controversial in certain situations. Anybody else know more about this?

I thought someone would have replied to your query. I'm not an expert but Albumin is blood product and is in Botox and Dysport. So, theoretically it could pass on some infections. I believe the risk is low.

Yes it is a water soluble protein found in the blood. We use to give it in ICU to maintain cardiac output......keep the blood pumping through the heart in cases of low blood volume in blood loss, fluid loss, burns, low albumin levels, prevent swelling of the brain or shock from any of these or other causes. In other words it is a natural part of the body, but must be kept in balance. Adding it to Botox doesn't sound like it could be dangerous in that small of a dosage.

Thank you for all that information. My doctor described it as helping the botox stick to muscles or something like that

Remember osmosis? Well from what I understand you saying and from what I know about albumin. Since it is a water soluble protein it would bind (attach or combine)with the Botox and help it pass through the membrane of the cell wall into the muscle cells. That is why it is important in the body; it helps control osmosis or the movement of fluid in and out of the cells of the body. With out enough albumin in the body, the fluid would be trapped in the blood and go out the kidneys or be trapped in the cells and rupture the cells eventually(not good.)

I walk into a room and can't remember what the heck I'm doing there, but I remember fluid and electrolyte balance and osmosis! Go figure?
