Has anyone had any luck with oral meds for blepharospasms? I have tried 12, and am now trying a combination of Klonopin and Tetrabenazine. I am immune to botox A. Thank you

Hi steve, I am beginning to think perhaps I am immuned to Botox A also since two sets of injections have done absolutly nothing. I will be watching your replies, as I am looking for alternatives. I have avoided oral meds up to now (5 years) because of my Mother's experience with oral meds for Dystonia in the ankle and toes for 20 years. She used every available medication. She thought they helped her for a few months or so, and then it was on to the next medication. We really couldn't see the difference in the spasms, but we could see her negative reactions to the medications! However, that was 8 years ago. and perhaps the new meds are better!--modified by Darlene Heierman at Sat, Jan 04, 2003, 17:20:38

Darlene.....I did 5 rounds of botox A, the neurologist increasing it every time, until a different neurologist did a test on my forehead to see if I was immune. I was. I am now trying botox B (myobloc). This will be my second try. Usually they do not use it on eyes, but on other types of dystonia (jaws, neck, etc.) It appeared to work a little bit for two weeks, and she will increase the dose.Steve

You might try the following link, Steve, regarding medications for blepharospasm. http://www.blepharospasm.org/01daroff.htmlMany of us take some of the medications that are listed in this report. I am presently taking Klonopin and Bendadryl to help control my symptoms as well as getting the BOTOX injections. The oral medications don't generally make your symptoms go away but various ones help with some of the symptoms.
Tetrabenazine has been shown to be helpful for Tardive Dystonia (drug induced).
Maybe others will post what they are taking and what it is helpful for.
