Hi everyone! I'm not new here, but it has been awhile. My symptoms have changed over the years. I am now 45 years old. It all started when I was 29 with tiny spasms under my left eye. It progressed gradually over the years to spasms from the forehead to my neck (left side only). I would sometimes go into remission (the longest was 3 years), but when it came back it got worse every time. I was diagnosed as having hemifacial spasm because it was one-sided. Just a few weeks ago, I started to have very mild twitches on the other side (very infrequent) and am now considered having dystonia/bleph. My question is that the left side of my face is pulling and my left eye shuts for a few seconds or longer and releases and that constantly happens even when sleeping. It makes my left face/head feel very numb. Has anybody experienced that before? I had a MRI in 93, but am finally giving in to another in another week. I had botox shots over 1 1/2 years ago and decided it wasn't really helping. Klonopin helps but can only take it at night because it knocks me out. Another question is, has anyone had problems on one side of the face, only to have the same thing happen to the other side and how long (it took 16 years for that to happen to me)? Thanks for listening.

I was originally diagnosed with hemifacial spasm and was connected to the HFS bulletin board for a couple of years. I do know that sometimes people do have it on both sides but it is rare. Try their website
