Well, gang, the days of miracles are NOT over! I just received my letter from the Social Security office awarding me my disability benefits! I filed on the 31st of December and the letter was dated February 7th - 38 days - unheard of! I talked to a social worker friend of mine from Ohio who works in a nursing home and she said she files these forms all the time and that it's unheard of to be accepted the first time and IMPOSSIBLE in 38 days! No one in SC (that I know) has ever known of anyone to have this accomplished. I give God the Glory! It has been a trying 38 days with my 82 year old ailing father falling and fracturing his hip, my mom being sick with a sinus infection and bronchitis (they live with me), my washing machine pump broke and had to be replaced, squirrels eating through my electrical wiring at my house causing us to not have power and having to move my parents. Every power strip in the house blew (get & use those strips), but it saved my major appliances. The only thing I lost except the strips was light bulbs, my mom's TV, a small appliance and the motor on the washing machine. It could have been worse - thanks to a good electrician and appliance man. The devil has been rattling my cage, but my trust has truly been on the Lord when I was beginning to lose it at the end when my '38 DAY MIRACLE' came. I thank all of you for your encouragement, advice, ideas, hints - it all payed off because I did everything everyone said was the right thing to do. GO GANG!!!!! Rejoicing Patti in SC patiently waiting for her first SS check in June*

Dear Patti,
I too had a lot of external circumstances going on when I applied for disability in March 2002. I received an acceptance in less thn 2 months with only 1 letter of explanation from me-no attorney (of course lots of medical reinforcement from the Drs. I've seen). I too had pryed about it and had others that did the same for me. I got my first check in May with no complications or interruptions since then.
Congratulations,
Linda in wet Memphis, Tn.

I went to nursing school and college in Memphis........way back in 1968 and stayed for 7 years. I loved it. At the time my sister and family were there. My son was born there, too. I remember Overton Square, Overton Park, Overton Zoo! Now the place has changed so much I couldn't find my way to the houses I lived! Do you go that support group in Memphis? I've been wanting to come and visit since I became State Coordinator. Maybe I'll see you some time. It is soggy here in Middle TN too. The creeks are rising! I live on a hill and not a flood plain. Just talked to my parents in Perry County on the TN River. The backwater gets up on 2 sides of them, but they live on a hill and are never in any danger. That bad tornado back in 1999 did get every tree in their yard and the house looks so lonely sitting up there now. They were glad to give up the trees in exchange for the house to be left standing. It was amazing to see.

Wow that is great about the SSD and you sure deserved some good news. Well I believe in miracles, they happen everyday we wake up. It's nice to get a hum-dinger one! Hope your Mom and Dad are doing better and those squirrels have better things to do. The worst they do to me is replant my bulbs for me.

Patti, congratulations. It is nice to believe in miracles and I do but in this case I think it was the fact that you did as many of us suggested and put together information that made the outcome successful. Believe it or not, as more and more of we Blepharospasm patients get the SS approval (some after going through hell) it helps the newer patients. As I mentioned to you, I was also accepted on the first pass. I don't remember how long it took but it was pretty quick. I am sure that now the code for BEB/Meige is in many State files and therefore in the future others will benefit. It is only through your hard work that you will in fact have provided miracles for others down the road...Alan
