Hi, I am new to Blepharospasm as of May. I had my first Botox teatment 10 days ago and have not had much relief. I am getting tear duct plugs tomorrow for the dryness and I am taking magnesium and B6. I'll try anything. I am a 53 year old teacher. Hopefully I will have some improvement over the summer so I can continue teaching. I am trying to be optimistic. thanks for listening. jean

Hi Jean and welcome to the beb bb, but sorry to hear you have this disease/disorder. I'm 64 and have had beb/meige for over 8 years. I get botox every 3-5 months and it works reasonably well for me with about a month of difficult side-effects though at the beginning of each treatment. I'd encourage you to `hang in' there with your doctor as it sometimes takes many sets of inejctions to get the placement of them just right for you and also for the right amount of botox units (I get 90 units each time now, but started out much lower). I hope the tear duct plugs help you and also the summer vacation so that you can continue teaching in th Fall. Come back and let us know how you are doing - we care.

Hi Jean

I have had BEB for over 13 years now and find Botox works very well. With me, it takes about a fortnight for it to kick in so give it time. Also it will take a while for your doctor to work out the best injection sites for you. A lot of us use a gel at night for dry eyes.

Thanks for the encouragement. Does anyone use Restasis for dry eyes?

I tried it and it hurt. I thought if I stuck with it, the burning might go away, but I finally had to quit. I couldn't tell if it helped the dryness or not - probably didn't use it long enough.

I did have my lower puncta plugged (and later cauterized) several years ago and it has helped. The info on the Restasis studies indicated that people with plugs didn't notice an improvement in eye moisture.
